Net curtains

Are they old fashioned now?

And if so, what else to use?

I'm on a 3rd floor flat so no direct line of sight and hidden behind trees. I hate curtains, have no need for them but the windows do feel bare.

I do not have the budget for shutters.

You haven't mentioned blinds?

We’re in our 30s & we have a mixture of blinds & nets- I think our nets are more modern than some as they have a leaf pattern on them. Ideally I prefer blinds but our living room window is so large I don’t think it would work.
Does it matter what everyone else is having? Choose what works for you.

Plain voiles are modern net curtains. Privacy and you can throw them in the washing machine now and again.
I swore off blinds years ago, too much dusting, and they can be a bit office ish.

I don't think nets are necessary for you. How about Roman blinds if you feel your windows are 'undressed'? Or - and I did this myself in my kitchen some years ago - just a pelmet type of trim above the window? I was very poor and there was already a batten on the wall above the window, so I just stapled some fabric onto it.
