Just announced today, new legislation being brought in to make the service providers like Just Eat liable to check the entitlement to work in the UK status of it's workers, even those who are supposedly self employed. About time too. Not only will this flush out the bad employers who turn a blind eye to illegal workers, it may also flush out workers and "employers" throughout the black economy who've been allowed to hide under "fake" self employment in the so-called "gig" economy for the last two or three decades.

Bring it on. Let's hope that there's more of this as the black economy, money laundering, tax evasion and benefit fraud needs strong challenge and action - let's add in to that those absent fathers who are avoiding their child maintenance obligations by working "cash in hand" etc.

Crackdown on illegal working and rogue employers in ‘gig economy’

In the latest move to restore order to the asylum and immigration system, the government will introduce tough new laws to clamp down on illegal working.

My objection is the souped up electric bikes they use and the dangerous driving

Agree it's the utterly dangerous and s danger to themselves moped rider's who don't know the high way code it's awful.

How about addressing the problem of all the money laundering, drug running and human trafficking in the fake pop up shops that are all over the place now. Less squeamishness over tackling the people who do this. Also the cash in hand dodgy tradies.

Goldiefrocks · 30/03/2025 21:01

I can’t see any of this being resolved until cash no longer exists and everyone has to have an identity card.

All of then should be targeted
