Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers of Mumsnet 💐. I hope your day's enjoyable, whether you celebrate or not.

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, after dozing off once I'd seen dd1 out to work. Boy kitten's currently on the hunt for a bug he's seen (and I think already eaten 🙄), and girl's watching him 🤷‍♀️.

Dd2's in charge of my cards and present - she said good morning on my way past her bedroom but hasn't come down so I'm guessing she's gone back to sleep. I'm intrigued as to what she picked yesterday, she dragged her dad into Waterstones & they used my points I was saving...but it's not a book!

It'll be another slow day here. I want to wash all the towels, upload some more things to Vinted, and carry on painting peg dolls. Nothing too taxing!

Later on I'll cook a roast for tea, then have my usual Self care Sunday scrubby everything shower, before I settle down with the last of my book.

What about all of you? 🙂

Gentle wake up with hot drink, mother's day cards flowers and chocolate bought to me in bed ( kids opened chocs and we all had one). Off to do a weekly activity with my eldest soon, then shower and family brunch with in-laws. Weather is nice here so maybe a walk after brunch x

mummysmagicmedicine · 30/03/2025 09:20

Good morning!
Kids have already come in with their cards they made at school/nursery and presents for me! Feeling very grateful for them and DH!
We need to go into town today, DD needs a new pair of school shoes🤦‍♀️. Not how I wanted to spent my Mother’s Day but oh well we might as well do the whole school shoes nursery shoes home shoes etc shop in clarks to get it out of the way for a bit! After that we will be going on a nice family walk then for a pub roast and then afterwards we will do some crafty bits together and then probably end up watching a movie!

Just going to be a normal boring day here. DC1 is working all day but she told me yesterday that she got me something that DC2 will give me today. DH is working night shift tonight and I have theatre rehearsal (I’m wardrobe mistress) so pretty much a normal Sunday for us. DC2 and I will walk the dogs at some point as well but that’s about it.

Morning :) I am working today so we are celebrating Mother's Day next week. I will attend church this evening though.

Having a slow start to the day (I am only working 11-2 so no rush). Had friends round for dinner last night so have unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher and got myself showered and dressed.

After work will watch Death in Paradise with DS and then go to church. Very quiet easy day.

I hope that everyone has a lovely day whether celebrating Mothers Day or not :)

Rowgtfc72 · 30/03/2025 09:23

Got up early with the dog. Dog went back to sleep on the sofa. I've had two hours peace with the tv and a cuppa. Bliss.
Teen still sleeping. I've just made dh a bacon butty. Will probably take doggo out soon.
Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Sheknowsaboutme · 30/03/2025 09:24

Off to a football match ⚽️

ssd · 30/03/2025 09:27

Morning @lucysmamand everyone here.
Hope you a have a lovely mothers day. I'm having my usual tea and toast and we are heading out for a nice day out. I have a lovely card, chocs, flowers and perfume. I won't see dcs as they live away and we have an empty nest. But its fine, im getting used it it.

Hedjwitch · 30/03/2025 09:30

Probably gardening and we need some food shopping. Would normally have a nice lunch with mum but she died last year so no plans today.

vodkaredbullgirl · 30/03/2025 09:43

Finished a night shift, just winding down before I go to bed. Chicken casserole in slow cooker for later when I get up for another night shift.

frozendaisy · 30/03/2025 09:51

Good happy Mother’s Day morning

I am on coffee making strike so H just put a pot on!
Taking MIL out for lunch, I don’t care about Mother’s Day and have tried to work my way out if it but the nippers are insisting I go as well.

Might buy some Sunday papers whilst out.

Enjoy all!

Andnowshesatoddler · 30/03/2025 09:52

My mother's day morning lie in got ended with shouts from my husband that my daughter had done the worse shit storm in memory. We have an agreement nappies like that get dealt with by both of us as it makes life so much easier!

Had some very thoughtful gifts though and some cute moments and cuddles.

I feel blessed to be where I am today.

4 years ago I could only dream of one day being somebodys mummy and the fact I get to be somebody as amazing as my daughter's mummy that's everything to me.

soccermum10 · 30/03/2025 09:57

Morning,

Trying to reclaim this lost hour. Had a bad night's sleep as well. Making a chicken dinner and just gonna get through this load of washing. DS2 is still bed 🤣

soccermum10 · 30/03/2025 09:59

Oh took mum out for lunch yesterday for mothers day as well and loving my thoughtful cards from my boys. Even though one of them is still snoring away lol

AceofPentacles · 30/03/2025 10:03

I've had the flu all week and have started getting the fear I won't be fit enough to return to work tomorrow. Not celebrating Mother's Day so I will be making our usual roast (maybe if I feel up to it).

twistyizzy · 30/03/2025 10:06

DD 13 is home but exhausted after boarding for final week of school in order to do the school play production followed last night by a sleepover! Missed her like mad but she dumped her stuff and is now curled up on her bed, doubt I will see much of her until tomorrow midday.
I've walked dog + done horse so laid on sofa scrolling whilst having 2nd coffee and contemplating what I should be doing. Really hoping for quiet day today as husband is walking dog and then going down allotment.
Break up for 1 week this coming Friday and can't bloody wait, we've hired a lodge somewhere lovely and peaceful to just try to have some chilled family time.
Really need to do online food shop but can't be bothered at moment.

Iamnotaloggrip · 30/03/2025 10:23

Enjoyed breakfast in bed before the kids had to go to their activities. Will go to mum’s to see her this afternoon, we’re off for a walk and then out for dinner.

Have a lovely Mother’s Day everyone 😊

Crunchymum · 30/03/2025 10:26

Morning, Happy Mothers Day one and all.

I was the first up today so managed to have a cuppa in peace.

DP is at work (he took the kids out yesterday) but when he is back we're all going out for pizza.

Nothing much planned for today. Just some essential chores (laundry, cat litter trays). Food shopping will be here soon so we're all having bacon sandwiches for late breakfast.

Older two will have an hour in the park and I'll do dome homework / reading with the youngest.

Was out last night for dinner with 2 of my SIL's and MIL which was lovely. It was our treat - DP and BIL's paid.

Hoping to be able to have a little time to chill and read.

GameOfJones · 30/03/2025 10:31

Morning everyone! Happy Mother's Day.

I had a lie in this morning and then DDs brought up cards they had made and I opened my presents (a new mug and coaster which I'm delighted with.)

DH has now taken DDs to their swimming lessons and I am sat in a café with a coffee and my book for the next hour which is perfect.

We're out for a roast at a pub this afternoon and then a quiet afternoon and evening planned. DDs need to do their homework, I need to get some bedding changed and then I think it'll be an early night.

Zippedydodah · 30/03/2025 10:36

Good morning everyone, it’s a beautiful sunny day here and ZDog2 and I have just come back from our wander around the field at the end of the road. She’s snoozing in a patch of sunlight on the carpet and DH has taken ZDog1 to the village for their usual Sunday morning chat and coffee in the village square.
There’s a beef joint braising in the slow cooker, the vegetables are prepped but I need to do the potatoes and make the batter for Yorkshire puds.
I’ve cleaned and tidied the kitchen, nothing much else to do today so I will spend some time in my summerhouse doing more drawing and enjoying the peace.

DilemmaDelilah · 30/03/2025 10:39

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. I slept well last night and feel better this morning.

I looked on the Too Good to Go app last night and saw that Aldi had a grocery bag going for today, so I have reserved that. This is a further away Aldi than we usually go to but we have had 3 occasions when we have turned up at the one closest only to be told that they don't have anything. The bags from Aldi can be very worthwhile getting, so we thought we would give this other one the benefit of the doubt. It is further away, but not by that much. Our evening meal tonight will depend on what we get (or don't get) in the TGTG bag! If there is no bag, or nothing suitable to eat tonight, we will just have meatballs or fish out of the freezer. We had the cassoulet I made and froze yesterday. It was very nice, thank goodness, as there are another 2 in the freezer!

I also found myself placing an order first thing this morning with the (usually very expensive) online butcher we use sometimes as they have some good offers at the moment. We have done a freezer stocktake so I know what we have in there and what we are likely to eat before it arrives. I have amended the Morrison's order due to arrive at about the same time to take account of it. Mr Dilemma is going to visit our family in Kent in a couple of weeks and I'm going to do some batch cooking while he's away. I can't go because (a) the side effects from my cancer meds don't allow me the freedom to be very far from a loo at any time and (b) I have to be home to look after our elderly cat. Now she needs a litter tray (and isn't very reliable at using that) we can't ask our neighbour to pop in and feed her etc. any more.

I had hoped to be able to book a swimming session today but there are none available. Monday is our usual day but we will be going to the churchyard where my parents are buried with flowers for my mum. It is in a village miles from anywhere with very limited parking, which is why we're not going today. I know there won't be anywhere to park today.

My not local daughter sent me flowers yesterday and I have already had a message from my stepdaughter. Only my (usually very reliable) not local daughter to go! I think either she has forgotten/got caught up with her own Mother's Day celebrations or she has Moonpigged/Funky Pigeoned me a card which hasn't arrived yet.

mamaduckbone · 30/03/2025 10:46

Dh made me a big frothy coffee in bed and I've been reading, lazing and scrolling - a rare Sunday morning without a rugby match.
It's the first Mother's Day I've had without both my boys - ds1 is on rugby tour with his uni team so doubt I'll hear from him, but ds2 is around although he hasn't surfaced yet.

I plan to do as little as possible today - we'll have Sunday lunch then we're over to my brother's for tea and cake later. Dm was supposed to be there for lunch but is feeling under the weather so she's backed out. I planted bulbs in her garden for Mother's Day last weekend so don't feel too bad for not seeing her.

RabbitsRock · 30/03/2025 10:46

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. Happy Mother’s Day & sending hugs with love to those who no longer have their DM or find this day tough for other reasons 🤗 I’m in bed, having had a cuppa brought to me by DH. DD16 was on her phone to someone until 4am (words will be had!) so is still in the land of nod. I very much doubt she has even got me a card. The 3 of us were going to go to a donkey sanctuary but have decided against it for various reasons. I’ve offered to sit with DM again if DF wants to play golf this afternoon. It does him good to have a break as it must be exhausting at times caring for DM. I let him know this morning that he can have the brandy fruitcake in Mum’s hamper. It also has teabags, shortbread fingers & mini pots of strawberry jam/lemoncurd. I also bought a jar of damson jam as Mum loves it & it’s hard to find these days. Trying to avoid chores today but will probably do the dishwasher & maybe hang some washing out. Not sure which way the weather’s heading! We were planning to order an Indian but it’s very likely to be busy tonight so it will be pizzas instead. Quite fancy garlicbread too. Might watch a film. I won some money in an online raffle so might treat myself to a bottle of AF gin & have a G & T in one of my new “ balloon” glasses. Oh yes & I bought Alberto Balsam green apple shampoo & conditioner yesterday - can’t wait to use them when DH has finished in the bathroom as I love that fragrance & haven’t had any for years. Simple things!

Taytocrisps · 30/03/2025 10:51

Morning everyone. I stayed over at my dad's house last night. We're going out for lunch in a bit. I'll stop off at the supermarket on my way home and do the weekly grocery shop. I didn't have time to go yesterday and I'll have no food for the week if I don't go today. DD is working and tells me that she has something for me for Mother's Day. We'll celebrate properly on Friday. We're going to a show on Friday afternoon and we'll have dinner and a few drinks afterwards.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 30/03/2025 10:51

It's just me and dd, who is autistic and almost 6

So she has no idea of what day it is 😄

Her school gave me my only mothers day card, which was laminated with a hand print of hers - will keep it, it's so lovely 🥰

We're up, watching Sunday brunch and I'm gonna make us some curry and rice, as I'm craving one

My cat is purring at me to let her out, but I don't have the strength to get out of bed just yet!

Happy mothers day all ❤️

randoname · 30/03/2025 10:58

Happy Mothering Sunday all! Mil and my mum sorted/ seen/ flowers delivered. DH away and two children at home have headed off to church before we meet up with the others at a cool (as in I first went there 40 years ago, haven’t been for 20 years) restaurant of my choosing.
Our heating is stuck on on, so DS2 and I clambered into the loft to switch it off, lots of bedding being washed and will get it on the line before I leave. I ran a bath before we switched it all off so I’m about to have a quiet long bath before I head off.
