Struggling with this

DS was due to go on a school residential trip this week. He didn’t go because he was worried something would happen to him after low level bullying at school. I’ve seen a message that says he didn’t go because he was scared of getting raped because he was getting it. My son doesn’t want me to do anything. I don’t think the lad would have raped him and neither does my son, but I don’t feel happy about what he said.

I wouldn’t be happy about that either , as a parent or as a teacher.
If your son has been threatened with rape ( or any assault) then definitely speak to the school’s safeguarding lead.
Is this primary or secondary school ?

Secondary. They are 16.

At 16 I’d start with the school.
Get as many facts from your ds as possible. If you’re not satisfied with the school response I’d go to the school management, * Ofsted and if necessary the police.

( I’m out of touch with school trusts, management etc… but school must show you a bullying policy when you request it or should be on their website. It’ll show the chain of complaint) .

And I’m so sorry this has happened to your ds, absolutely vile behaviour.

Ubugly · 28/03/2025 09:05

i agree this is vile and potentially a police matter, I’m sure if this was said to a girl in school, there would be an investigation.

your poor son should not have to miss out due to some scummy kids. Has he got good friends there?

my son received horrible video messages over a weekend and I reported to the police and they did take it seriously and came out to see us. We didn’t know who it came from at the time and it’s impossible for what’s app messages to be released with details from America but anyway we blocked and heard no more touch wood but I had saved the number and the silly little bitch has it attached to a social media account, I’ve left it for now but still seething.

Thanks both. I spoke to the school about this to find out their view and it was downplayed. They then went and did something off the back of what I said against my wishes. What they did made it worse for my son. He doesn’t know I’ve spoken to the school. He would go mad if he found out.

I asked the police what they thought. They want to investigate and speak to the lad and his parents. My son hit the roof when he found out. He is refusing to talk to them.

He has other friends, but they will side with this lad. Probably because they don’t want to be the next target.

They don’t have long until they finish school. Thinking perhaps I should leave it and see how things go. Feeling like I have made this worse for him. I’m so upset that he missed out on the trip. He has been told they had plans to do stuff to him on the trip, not rape, but stuff that would have humiliated him. Again I don’t know if they would have followed through with this.

I’m sorry to hear about what happened to your son @Ubugly. That’s very cruel. It must have been hard when you finally found out who did it. I would imagine it stirred up the bad feelings again.
