7.7 - looks like a lot of casualties and damage, extending as far as Bangkok.

My son and his wife are there, both ok but it was a frightening experience for them and a cold pit of the stomach call from them this morning. There were two quakes one at 4.9 and the other at 7.7.

I’ve just seen the revised news that state it could be not thousands but tens of thousand dead.
I saw the BBC news this morning before leaving home and couldn’t work out why, when the earthquake was in Myanmar, they were reporting from Bangkok and the casualties there. I only realised after it was because at that time there was no news from Myanmar - which is terrifying.

Thoughts for those who have died, and those seeking to contact relatives and friends there.

It's really bad. I think they just said the phone lines and power are so damaged in Myanmar that we just don't know how bad yet.

I was in Myanmar before the coup. Beautiful country and lovely people. I know natural disasters can happen anywhere but this is awful.

It will be a long time, if ever, before the full death toll is known. No offer of help (AFAIK) from the US.

There have been a number of earthquakes and volcanoes going off in the last week or so. Every so often the earth shrugs and these happen.

NeedWineNow · 29/03/2025 09:08

Just watching on the news, it is horrendous😢

Trump has actually (surprisingly!) offered assistance. Who knows whether it will actually appear though.
