Any ideas on where you could get work experience in epidemiology?

Hi your local authority should be able to help. They analyse their local populations health.

The most obvious would be UKHSA, or the equivalent if you are say, in Scotland, there will be something that does only Scottish data. Another obvious one would be a local university. There will be oodles of health research projects ongoing that draw on epidemiological work and there will be people who are actually epidemiologists in name, but also lots of public health researchers who might be willing to invite someone in to shadow them.

I think it depends on what level the person is. If we’re talking secondary school, local authority including even animal health focused units. The people who do food hygiene inspections would be really interesting. Defra, from an animal health, food chain perspective.

If for someone looking to get post-university experience, seeking out a research internship or a volunteer placement abroad would be really interesting and there are lots of both out there. I work in health research and certainly I’ve had university students up through junior doctors and master’s students intern with me.
