Diverticulitis.... Painful... 😔 😔

I've been in so much pain.... Going on since Tuesday... Has definitely got worse today...
Mum took me to the doctors without an appointment and thankfully a lovely GP saw me within half an hour.. I'm on antibiotics. He wanted me to have Co codomol but they make me go a bit loopy so I declined. I am on Panadol extra.
I've been racking my brains wondering what I've eaten to make me have a flair up but the GP said it can sometimes flair up anyway.
No work tomorrow... Hoping I soon feel better.

You poor thing, I’ve had it a few times and it’s horrendous. Taking ibuprofen can sometimes trigger mine but sometimes no cause.

Hope it passes soon

Thankyou... He said my blood pressure was a little high. I did a urine sample too. We decided that the sample was a funny colour but on probability the pint of orange juice and lemonade I had in the pub was probably the cause!! 🤣 🤣

Good luck, I've had diverticulitis for years and it's shit when it flares up and you're not sure why. Just a thought, orange juice can be problematic for me.

Also, surprised you were offered co codamol as that makes me constipated and constipated is the last thing you want to be.

Sonolanona · 27/03/2025 22:46

Sympathy from here...mine flares up more than it doesn't and the last round of Co-amoxiclav has given me thrush to add insult to injury ! I can never work out what I can actually eat that doesn't hurt!

Thelnebriati · 27/03/2025 23:10

Doesn't Panadol extra contain caffeine? That can aggravate a flare up.

Elderflower14 · 28/03/2025 07:47

Thankyou.. I had asked my Mum to get some more this morning.. Have now asked her to get ordinary paracetemol.
Very glad that I have today and tomorrow off work. Still getting the stomach cramps. A hot water bottle helped last night. Am planning to spend today in my onesie on the sofa so will tuck the hot water bottle inside my onesie!!

I'm never sure what flares mine I'm pretty sure it's onion, sympathises though it is so painful.

I take buscopan for the spasms.

Coffeeishot · 28/03/2025 07:54

Oh I also drink boiled water seems to help me.

Thankyou. I have just found some Buscopan in the first aid box. I'd forgotten I'd taken them before. I have some.. Fingers crossed it helps!

It really helps me, check out if you can take it with panadol though you might need to space it out.

My husband suffers terribly with diverticular disease. He’s had to do various diets to find out what triggers him. As someone else mentioned, onion is a big no no as well as garlic and red meat amongst other foods. When it gets really bad and infected it takes weeks for him to get better so he just avoids trigger foods now, it’s not worth it .
