Coffee pods

Has anyone found a compostable coffee pods which tastes as good as nespresso? I am a bit addicted to arpeggio (the purple ones) but keen to move away from nespresso for environmental and health reasons. Any recommendations for one which tastes like arpeggio would be great.

No, l haven’t found anything to compare. I do send my Nespresso pods for recycling though, but appreciate there are still issues with that, albeit reduced.

Moving on, l’ve clearly missed something, could you elaborate on the “health reasons”?

My council recycles Tassimo pods.

Not sure if it’ll help with the health issues (I’ve not heard of any linked to Nespresso?) but you can get a tool online that takes the foil off the Nespresso pod, then you can compost your grounds and recycle the aluminium.

Grind. They taste like the tar off the road in a heatwave, but if you like actual coffee you will get used to it.
My pal who drinks milky caramel favoured coffee hates them.
I got addicted by accident but found the pods easy to source -ocado sell them.

I really like the dualit ones. They do a monsoon Malabar and it’s glorious.

'Health reasons' was mainly due to the link between aluminium and alziemers/parkinsons. I do have a genetic predilection though so have to be extra careful.

We're using Grind at work and I really like them.

DS has a silicone lid, which means he can reuse the aluminium pods with any coffee and apparently works really well.

BestIsWest · 27/03/2025 08:11

Grind were on offer in Sainsbury’s last week for £3.

Watching with interest.

I'd like to invest in a coffee pod machine for the convenience but I can't justify the waste.

Annoyingsquirrels · 27/03/2025 18:08

Anyone tried the reusable coffee pods?

I reached out to grind and they suggested their dark roast might be similar to arpeggio, has anyone tried this one?

I'm thinking about a cheap on sale machine BUT have all these pod things got milk and flavours added? If It can't make me a single espresso, just coffer, then I won't bother. Does anyone know?

Apprenante · 08/10/2025 09:39

Most are just coffee if they're Nespresso compatible.

Serpentstooth · 08/10/2025 09:47

Thank you. Increasing loss of dexterity in right hand so I'm looking for something less fiddly than espresso pot.

I've got a Tassimo machine. The espresso pods are just coffee. Even the pods for things like cappuccino are packaged as one espresso pod for the coffee itself then a separate one for the milk. I've not done much experimentation to see which of the espresso pods is the best but I can recommend the Costa americano pods.

I thought the grind ones tasted like dishwater and they also clogged up the little grid that the base of the pod presses on.

To be balanced though that was a long time ago when they first came out, so maybe they have improved.
