Would this be a good idea?

I have a function coming up in a few weeks. I was thinking of an idea to try and save money or reduce spending.

Could I buy a small bottle of vodka from a shop in my grocery shop and maybe put it in the freezer before I leave for the function and then carry it in my handbag. Then to save on drink spending I could get some mixers and use my own vodka.

This function, is it a works thing? If so, don't bring any vodka or other drink.

Perhaps you are going to the theatre or similar? If so and you are planning to save on drink this might work.

No, it's not a work thing. It's a family mass followed by a function/celebration thing.

Just have a soft drink or fizzy water? You don't need alcohol.

Would you feel mortified if the bar staff spotted you and threw you out?

SheridansPortSalut · 26/03/2025 21:29

Can you really not get through a family mass and event without a bottle of vodka?

Redshoeblueshoe · 26/03/2025 21:30

Of course you can.

I'm afraid you will come off looking stingy if you carry around your own mickey.

I would cut back in other areas and limit your drinks to just a few for the event.

TY78910 · 26/03/2025 21:33

I think that would be frowned upon. Some places (I’m thinking metropolitan areas, bars in particular) check bags for glass / liquids anyway.

grab yourself a soft drink if you’re strapped for cash, chances are someone will buy you a drink anyway especially as it’s family

BYO spirits would be something I’d have done at 17 not later in life (assuming you’re an adult)

verycloakanddaggers · 26/03/2025 21:35

It'd be better to just not drink.

You could buy some sandwiches as well and take those.🙄
