Is this a nail infection…. Or something else?

I’ve had this for months. I thought it was just a reaction to BIAB nail varnish but as it didn’t hurt/cause any problems I just ignored.

then someone on another thread mentioned skin cancer of the nail and well, I didn’t even know it was a thing. And now I’ve spent the afternoon googling and sobbing. It could be an infection. It could be a melanoma. I’ve got a doctors appointment at the end of next week but desperately seeking some reassurance before then.

might take a while for photo to become viable. The red bits are left over nail varnish: it’s a black/green colour in real life.

Hadn’t really heard of that before but googled and that seems like it too. And a much better option than melanoma 🥲

Looks like a bruise. It will have to grow out.

It is a pseudomona. Generally from a lack of hygiene at a nail bar. Not a melanoma for sure.

In all the months you've had it- has it been growing out with a clear margin of new growth- or is it getting bigger?

I had a nail that looked just like that - on reflection i had whacked it a few weeks before but I didn’t associate the two events.
It didn’t seem to grow out, just stayed like that for months, then one day the whole nail fell off revealing a 3/4 grown new nail underneath, so I’d say a bruise.

There’s a new margin of growth, but it has got bigger. It was green to start off with. Only just taken BIAB off today. Nail bed is lifting a bit

Weirdly I’ve been getting reporting ear infections which seems to be a symptom of pseudomona too?
