That’s nearer Harrogate than York though. Although agree it’s very nice. And if swimming isn’t a necessity you could try the Turkish Baths OP ..full spa facilities. And steam/dry sauna rooms in an amazing setting

The Grand in York has a pool. It's a good hotel pool - it's not amazing. But the hotel itself is splendid - really love that hotel and have stayed quite a few times. Highly recommend it, and the restaurant is great too. It's luxurious and top notch.

I've stayed a couple of times at the Principal, the railway hotel, which is also nice but not as nice as the Grand. Their swimming pool, when I swam there which was admittedly something like 2019, was dated and a bit cold. Not luxe. The whole vibe of that hotel is a little 2010 - everything is painted grey. I stayed there last year but didn't swim and I would say it's on the slide.

(I like their garden room and I like trains, so that's why I go back, but it's just not as top flight as the Grand.)

I've not been to Middlethorpe Hall yet, but that's the other "spa hotel" round there. Will be interested to see what people think of it.
