can anyone recommend any calm tv shows for children? So many are so fast pace and manic these days.
Some do the older shows are good but quality is poor as they’re from the 1990s and only on YouTube.

so for my list consists of:

Sarah and Duck
Rosie and Jim
Book of Pooh

please add yours too!

Is 'In The Night Garden' still going? That was my favourite when my dc were little!

Seeline · 24/03/2025 11:25

How old are the children?

AgricolaOrBed · 24/03/2025 11:26

Abney and Teal for little ones. Very gentle and dreamy.

I was about to suggest older stuff but you’re right that quality varies.

The Clangers remake is nice. Also Moon and Me.

Plus Abney & Teal.

If you can access a DVD player, then Trumpton/Chigley, Bod, Bagpuss, Kipper, Ivor the Engine all go much, much slower.
Tgese are all available on dvd

I have fond memories of Old Jacks Boat from when mine were younger.

PosiePetal · 24/03/2025 11:40

Bagpuss!

sandgreen · 24/03/2025 11:44

Puffin Rock is nice, on Netflix.

TreatYoSelf2025 · 24/03/2025 11:53

Puffin Rock on Netflix (and CBeebies on the weekends, I believe)

Broccoliboat · 24/03/2025 12:03

I’ve added puffin rock to our list!

Charlie and Lola?

It scares me how overstimulating TV shows are compared to back in the day. Look at the difference between these Peter Rabbit adaptations:

It's the same with films. Disney or whatever used to have chunks of action/jeopardy in between stretches of everything being calm and serene. Now it's all near-constant action with only very fleeting moments in-between, it's exhausting! I know everyone thinks 'it was better' back in their childhood but how it is now really can't be good for developing brains, I don't think.

Puffin Rock is my absolute favourite. I find it extremely relaxing when DDs are watching 🤣.

Also a big fan of Abney and Teal.

RoseSlippers · 24/03/2025 18:22

My 3 year old loves Kiri and Lou on CBeebies. And TikTak too which is really old!

Dramallama24 · 24/03/2025 18:25

Another vote for puffin rock my 3yo loves it and is now on iplayer!

GrumpySparkler · 24/03/2025 18:29

We love Puffin Rock here too.

Nelly and Nora is another nice one. Used to be on CBeebies, so probably on BBC iPlayer.
