Do I need to worry about the battery?

I was going through a drawer this evening and discovered an old battery pack had burst.

DS is telling me that if the insides of the battery come out it could start a fire, and now I’m scared to go to bed with it in the house.

What am I supposed to do with this thing? Advice or reassurance much appreciated.

Do I need to worry about the battery?

Put it outside somewhere it can’t cause any damage if it did catch alight. I have no idea if it can or not but I would be equally anxious! Your local recycling centre should take it once you have time to take it.

Thank you.
What if it’s worse if it gets wet?
