What things* are you really particular about?

*in your house.

My house is generally clean and tidy, as in would pass the MN 'visitor ready' test 😄
But I am really finicketty about having clean sinks. I get edgy when faced with a dirty sink.
And yes, I do go around cleaning people's sinks when I'm there, but only those who I know are happy with me doing it 🙈

Do you have sink issues too?

I have hundreds, but a sink related one is I can't stand dishes left on the drying rack overnight. They should be manually dried and put away immediately

dothehokeycokey · 23/03/2025 17:31

My house is always clean and tidy.
I can’t sit down if there’s stuff to do.
I also hate a dirty sink and all dishes go straight in the dishwasher in this house.

I also have a thing about tea towels being folded on the holders properly.

PrettyDetails · 23/03/2025 17:37

Plumped up cushions. A sad and sorry sight is a deflated cushion.

ohyesido · 23/03/2025 17:41

I probably spend more time sweeping my wood floors than I do sleeping.

Middlemarch123 · 23/03/2025 17:54

I have to spray and wipe down the shower cubicle after it’s used, sometimes 3 times a day. I hate a smearing shower. I don’t like loos that aren’t spotless. And bins, can’t stand a full bin.

tsmainsqueeze · 23/03/2025 18:00

I'm the same with kitchen sinks , washing up bowls ,cloths and tea towels.
Toilets have to be spotless for me and the sink and hand towel.
I try to keep as tidy as possible but i'm quite relaxed with a little bit of clutter and a carpet that needs a hoover but no compromise with sinks and toilets.

BarneyRonson · 23/03/2025 18:03

I like tea to be in a very thin China mug and it needs to be properly hot. I’m otherwise not super particular.

TheChosenTwo · 23/03/2025 18:05

A grubby kitchen floor. Even if it just has a few crumbs. My kitchen floor is probably hoovered about 5 times a day.

BiggyJ · 23/03/2025 18:09

Hah I was going to say toilets too, but thought you'd all be like "Everyone has clean toilets!" , although I know this is not true!
Yes, sparkling toilets and sinks are my thing. No water droplets and taps wiped over after every use please.

I also hate a sticky ketchup bottle lid... 🙈

I'm one of the life's too short brigade.... !

Bloody hell, be careful what you wish for, if I knew you, I'd honestly be over like a shot 😂

Re the toilet thing, one of my friends has a weekly cleaner, but in between times, their toilets can be absolutely gross.
I couldn't bear that myself.

Not the house but it drives me mad when people give out inaccurate information, especially medical stuff. My in-laws are always doing that and it makes my teeth itch.

Oh my toilets are fine. I'm not that gross!

Oh no! I didn't mean that for you!

I was just going back to my previous comment.
Apologies if you took it that way.

Yep kitchen sink and kitchen worktops. My main one is the loo. Love pouring bleach over all those germs. All those domestos adverts over the years live rent free in my head.

Cattery · 23/03/2025 18:18

Clean toilet every day. Same with bathroom sink. Don’t allow washing to build up. Rota of wash, dry, airing cupboard, put away. I always know where certain items are in this cycle if I’m asked (I know, I need to lighten up) x

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 23/03/2025 18:21

The loo roll has to be the right way round. If someone else has switched and empty for a new roll and not put it the right way round I have to flip it. I don't say anything, I just hope that if I keep doing it, it might sink into their subconscious that there's a right way and a wrong way 😂

ithinkicanithinkican · 23/03/2025 18:22

The seams on lampshades. I can’t bear it when they are facing front, always need to turn them to the rear.

TwoWildlings · 23/03/2025 18:27

I’m not a clean freak but I really dislike a grubby floor/carpet and it’s something I notice straight away.

I think it makes an otherwise clean and tidy room look messy if it’s not been swept or hoovered.
As a result, I hoover the living room everyday, the hallway and hard floors get swept everyday too. I mop them every other day.

Perhaps it’s because we have 2 young kids, crumbs get everywhere and we’re quite outdoorsy so there’s always mud, sand, leaves and whatever else being trailed into the house!

heartsinvisiblefury · 23/03/2025 18:57

Toilet seat has to be down
Work tops have to be wiped clean
Kitchen floor has to be swept

merryhouse · 23/03/2025 20:34

... I'm a slob

TemporaryCarer · 23/03/2025 20:37

I make sure there is always decent teabags, milk and bread in the house. There is nothing a bit of tea and toast won't fix.

Otherwise, there are lots of things I'd like to be a certain way but have given up on due to full time work, kids, and life shit happening.

AlwaysCoffee25 · 24/03/2025 06:18

I started a list but then realised everything in my house needs to be “just so” and I’m definitely at the extreme end of this sort
of spectrum…!

BiggyJ · 24/03/2025 07:30

@AlwaysCoffee25 and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that!
There's a lot more I could list too 😂

You clean other people’s sinks? Bloody hell that’s rude. And I bet quite a few of the people who you think are ok with it, aren’t.

I’m not massively particular but I do like the shower wiped down every time.
