How would you feel if you ate this in a day?

Foolsgold74 · 22/03/2025 21:20

Breakfast - 4 slices white toast n butter
Snack - 16 mini brownie bites
Lunch - small portion of fish fingers n chips
Snack - cheese n mayo sandwich
Dinner - large bowl of pasta with tomato sauce n grated cheese
8 glasses of sparkling water with lime cordial

Would this be akin to an average day for you? Would it leave you feeling hungry or stuffed? Bloated? Absolutely fine?

At the moment - full. Sometimes ok. It depends on so many other factors. Where you are mentally, what your lifestyle is. Much of my life I ate 500gm of jelly lollies everyday. I’m impressed by the 8 glasses of sparkling water - it’s more likely to be wine for me.
Whatever works for you is what matters.

NordicGiant · 22/03/2025 23:15

I'd feel really ill if I ate all that.

I'd feel even worse the next morning - my skin would hurt, which is a weird after effect I get if I go overboard on the carbs.

Really? That’s a lot of stodge and would make me poop a lot the next day…

I was thinking the same!

Awakeatnite · 22/03/2025 23:22

@Foolsgold74
you have sensory issues. so do I.
you need to go for more expensive fruits and vegetables, and prioritise it.
especially organic ones because of the improvement in texture and flavour.
Don’t go for frozen or tinned, the texture/taste is horrible
I avoid brocolli and cauliflower, apart from tender stem which is nicer.
carrots have gone soft and are bendy, it’s hard to describe it but go for organic.
eat nicer quality fresh fish.
go for more expensive cuts of steak . Don’t eat chicken breast/whole chicken, it’s rubbery now.
Have fresh berries once a day.
there are burgers in Tesco that are 94% beef, 4 for £4.75.

Awakeatnite · 22/03/2025 23:26

Get a freezer if you don’t have one and microwaveable plastic containers from Amazon to store food. Once or twice a week cook a number of portions for something and freeze it

Normallynumb · 22/03/2025 23:27

I could eat the brownie bites but wouldn’t want anything else that day
i never eat breakfast anyway

Dagnabit · 22/03/2025 23:28

All that would give me a tummy ache. 😣

Wouldn’t be able to eat all that so can’t tell you how I’d feel, other than physically sick

I feel constantly worried that I'm damaging my health. I'm annoyed I've put 2 stone back on and no longer fit in my clothes. I have major energy slumps. I feel bloated and stuffed yet hungry at the same time.

OP, read or listen to the audiobook of Fast 800 Keto. It goes into a lot of detail regarding what we eat, why we eat it and why after eating a huge amount of sugar and carbs you’re still hungry. It really helped my DH reframe his thoughts around food even though he didn’t follow the diet.

Micheal Mosley explains in the book that the body is craving protein. So despite eating 4 slices of toast, within an hour your body is telling you it still needs protein as it hasn’t had any yet that day but you interpret that as hunger and reach for the brownie bites. But your body still hasn’t had any protein, so you are “hungry” again by lunch. But you’re not really, you just need protein. And you are falling into this trap constantly throughout the day.

@Foolsgold74 , that was my diet for years - along with the insomnia and the diet coke addiction, plus Im also a heavy drinker

I would love to type here that I now eat a healthy diet ( I do ) and the insomnia and Diet Coke/drink addiction have gone but Id be lying

However I have changed the diet and do feel a lot better,, seriously a lot better. As a veg dodger I started with soup - no one cant make soup - it's veg and liquid, three leeks and a couple of spuds and a stock cube - you have soup. Then Salad, sod the salads from our youths, now I make salads from jars and grains with some fresh stuff, like rocket ( tastes a lot better then a lettuce ) . I just find stuff I like and chop it all up small. Like a small amount of cucumber, some sun dried tomatoes, olives, peppers ( from a jar ) throw in beans - chickpeas for example or make some couscous , some onion, olives ..... whatever flavours I like and using jars means you get flavour and no salad drawer dying in front of you every week

I would still love to eat bread and pasta with abandon but as Ive gotten older it plays havoc with me. Where I would easily have sat with a bowl of pasta just adorned with olive oil and black pepper, eaten from the saucepan to save on dishes, I now at least add rocket or spinach and sun-dried tomatoes to it. Same as I no longer have a bacon butty - its a BLT - tomato and lettuce ( or rocket )

When I say healthy diet, guess Im saying healthier then it was, I now don't eat anything without veg of some description added . I probably don't get five a day, but I get more then I did, and I get enough that Im not sickened with it so I keep making good choices , even if Im going for a Nutella butty, I slice in a banana

The insomnia is still with me but since Ive upped the veg Im now averaging 5 hours sleep - before it was 4 or less, That's over a year, I still have plenty of nights of 2 or 3 hours, but over the year my sleep hours are increasing

I know my skin appreciates my efforts, plus I do have more energy

Just make small changes to move away from the beige

We were away for a few days in Krakow - lots of meat and dumpling style meals - after three days we ( dh ) were craving vegetables and ended up in a chain buying a salad bowl ( then went and ate KFC )

I’ve been trying to think what I would do if I hated to cook and didn’t like any of the things that I like. This might be completely gratuitous, you have not asked for advice (but have said you don’t feel too good). Plus I am not you, I don’t know why you don’t like fruit, if it’s mouthfeel, too acid, whatever. So please do completely ignore.

If I wanted to make incremental changes from that starting point it would be something like this:
Hard boiled egg, with soy sauce. Two skices of toast and butter. Then another slice with marmalade or peanut butter.
Some salted almonds, piece of nice chocolate. Or a piece of apple tart.
Chicken thigh in oven with baked potato (maybe in time, roasted onions and courgette too). Or tuna with baked potato maybe.
Rye crisbread with cream cheese (maybe radishes, in time). Or have coleslaw instead of mayo on cheese sandwich. Or a bowl of ready made lentil or potato and leek soup.
Saag aloo or dal or some other curry with rice (ready made).
Slices of orange and lemon in my sparkling water.

TorieMJ · 22/03/2025 23:38

You need mounjaro in your life!!

BogRollBOGOF · 22/03/2025 23:40

The good news is that just about anything is an improvement on where you're at now.

Make one managable change at a time.

Breakfast is a good place to start. It needs protein so something like scrambled eggs on toast. Or natural yoghurt with (defrosted) frozen berries.
It will keep you more filled for longer. The eggs will cook in the time it takes to make the toast.
If you avoid the carby, glucose spike to start the day, you'll be less likely to crave within a few hours. A few weeks of the habit will start showing positive changes.

Anything with some kind of fruit/ vegetable content will be better. Baked beans count. Anything tinned, frozen or dried. Even ready meals will have more variety of nutrients at this stage.

Take a multi-vitamin.
You're probably low in iron which will also affect energy. Floradix is good for a boost.

As you get used to one change, you should begin to feel a bit better and have a bit more capacity for the next change. Don't worry about perfect, just make it one change better.

Your body is an amazing thing. It and you (as a person) are worth looking after.

Americano75 · 22/03/2025 23:41

I'd probably just die. Like, literally explode. Instantly, like a bomb went off. Lard everywhere.

MarchHare339 · 22/03/2025 23:42

I’m surprised you are functioning at all eating that sort of diet.

AInightingale · 22/03/2025 23:49

Sounds like you need to give up refined sugar and trash carbs. (Obviously, and that's not news to you.) Can you treat them as you would cigarettes, as something very habit-forming that are extremely unhelpful for your body? I do think they create glucose spikes, slumps and cravings. It's like trying to keep a fire burning with paper alone.

Your diet also sounds really low in protein so no wonder you're constantly hungry.

CapybaraInMyGardenOhIWish · 22/03/2025 23:49

That many carbs would play havoc with my blood sugars. I would be feeling unwell from the spikes.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 22/03/2025 23:56

I used to eat a spectacular amount of crap @Foolsgold74 . Not to your level but still very bad.

I got the gift of type 2 diabetes for Christmas last year and now face having to be very very careful about my diet for the rest of my life.

It will catch up with you eventually. Better to get on top of it now than have it forced on you. Fruit and veg is crap, but it's better than being dead.

BigKnix · 22/03/2025 23:57

I'm not overly slim, I'd say even a generous size 14 after 12 months of ivf hormones (and no, I don't think that's big or that there's any shame in being overweight) but if i had eaten all that in one day, I'd feel so unwell I'd consider writing my final will and testament, just to be on the safe side!

I'd haven't been finished after breakfast!

Ariela · 23/03/2025 00:03

I really dislike white bread & toast, and could only manage 1 slice of toast for breakfast but it'd have to be brown or granary. Or a bowl of porridge
16 mini bites - these are disgustingly sweet and I wouldn't have a snack. 16 is masses, I think I'd be sick!
I never eat a hot lunch. Sounds very greasy, If I have fish and chips, I nick a couple of inches off DH's portion of fish and about a dozen chips. But that would be dinner. My lunch is always either salad or sandwich, and an apple. Work is a drive away from nearest shop, and probably 5 miles nearest F&C
Again no afternoon snacks, these are not necessary
Dinner - sounds fine but how big is 'large'? I could only manage the standard 90g dry portion max - and where is the salad?
I'd drink tea and water. Plain water.

If I had your food I'd be putting on at least 3 or 4 lb+ a week. Or more, and feeling totally bloated. Not enough fresh food/fruit/veg.

hazandduck · 23/03/2025 00:05

I would honestly feel ill eating all that.

Is there no fruit at all that you like?? I used to hate apples but I slice and put peanut butter on them as a snack and now I like them and eat them on their own too. What about tinned pineapple or peach? Just thinking you have very little nutritional benefits from a diet like that day to day. Could you make smoothies or buy a nice mango and passion fruit one or something sweet like that to get vitamins? Have a glass of smoothie and one slice of toast instead of four to start a change.

I would personally choose either cheese sandwich or fish fingers and chips. Not both. That is like having two lunches. And have a banana or something.

Do you make the pasta sauce yourself? If you don’t it would be easy to do with fresh toms/other diced veg, and add some cod or other white fish to the tomato sauce instead of having the fish fingers.

Your diet isn’t great but is easily tweaked to be a lot better!

Saz12 · 23/03/2025 00:06

I could eat that in a day. I would start feeling a bit rubbish after two or three days of it. I'm not overweight, and dont think the calories are the issue.

Namechangean · 23/03/2025 00:15

I’d feel fine tbh
