Mother’s Day next week - what gift would you love to receive?

OP posts:

I’d love DS to be back at the age where he loves snuggling on the sofa with me watching a movie and would make me a card. He’s now 23 and submits to a hug if pushed and will get me something but I’d love just a proper cuddle with the younger him.

He mentioned Mother’s Day a couple of weeks ago as he reckons we need a new coffee machine and he said he could get me one for Mother’s Day. I pointed out they are more expensive than he thinks and that I would just like a card and a hug. Then I remembered for my 60th birthday last year he got me a Sympathy card. So maybe a card wasn’t a good suggestion….🙄

Fagli · 23/03/2025 10:24

A homemade card and cuddle in bed. I don’t need gifts as mine are too young to buy them anyway. We are going out for a lovely late lunch. I like going out for lunch on Mother’s Day, we go to places that don’t have Mother’s Day ‘deals’ and it’s the usual restaurant layout so they don’t pack you in.

BurntBroccoli · 23/03/2025 18:29

I’ll be alone on Mother Day as both of my 2 are away. No partner. Hope I get a card though at least and hoping for some nice weather so I can go for a nice walk somewhere.

The best present for me would be a visit from any/ all of my 3 adult DS’s.
I’m sure I’ll see them near the day, if not on the day.
I’d love a card.. I keep them

I keep my cards too. DS does lovely little drawings in them.

I always think "Oh a nice afternoon tea would be lovely for Mothers Day" but the reality never works It isn't a meal . It takes a fair bit of preparation (I'm not a fan of going out for Afternoon Tea)
I did go out a couple of years ago to buy sandwiches and cakes but it was a hassle and a bit meh

So this year:
We'll have a big brunch ( we;re vegetarian except DS ) I;ll make a loaf in the breadmaker for morning . That will see us nicely till afternoon.
Then we can have some cake , chocolate crispy cakes ,coffee .

DD will buy MD cards (one for her and one for DS ......and no I don;t care if she buys both or he buys both . I buy cards for my DH Mum as I am buying one for my mum at the same time . It is no big deal)

The cats will persuade DD to draw them a nice card as they don;t want to spend their money .
DH can tidy after tea
DS can steam the kitchen floor .

I hope I get a card from the cat too! Though I imagine it will be the usual look of distain instead!

pimplebum · 23/03/2025 19:00

I’ve told my kids 6 and 10 that I don’t want a gift ( no more mugs , coasters , key rings please ! )
I want action ! Ie get dressed for school no fuss , tidy up after yourself. Poo in toilet , engage in nice chat with me etc etc

and a nice handmade card

FindingMeno · 23/03/2025 19:26

I've told my dc's not to worry.
It's just not a big deal for my family.

All.my dc together. Their traditional mothers day breakfast in bed and then whatever they plan for us to do, usually involves going out for a walk somewhere

MonkeyPuddle · 23/03/2025 19:46

Just a bunch of daffs and some nice shower gel. We’re going to the pub for tea along with my mum and sister. Couple of glasses of wine and a nice tea that none of us had to prepare or wash up. Lovely.

Alwaystired23 · 23/03/2025 19:51

To feel valued.

I want a day on my own

This. Just peace please. No looking after various gc's whilst other gc are doing football and swimming. DD and DDIL's are you watching? Thank you

This is sooo true! They are so good at giving the purry love you vibe before they have their tea!

lifeturnsonadime · 23/03/2025 20:28

I'd like my son, who is in his first year at uni, to remember to text or phone.

The rest is just commercial nonsense.

NatalieH2220 · 23/03/2025 20:29

A lay in would be great then a bacon sandwich with a coffee, I'm easily pleased!

MayaPinion · 23/03/2025 20:32

A cup of coffee in bed, a box of Black Magic, and then for everyone fuck off and leave me alone for 8 hours so I can sleep, go for a swim and a sauna at the local hotel spa, and then come home and have another nap. When they come home they’ll bring a takeaway and a bottle of wine.

Temporaryname158 · 23/03/2025 20:42

My children, but they will be at their dads 😭

Chasingsquirrels · 23/03/2025 20:48

Garden tote bag
Chocolates
Flowers (would usually like an orchid but I brought myself 2 a week or so ago)

What would you like for Mother’s Day?
familyissues12345 · 23/03/2025 20:57

I really love a bunch of tulips and a dinner somewhere/take away. I’m pretty low maintenance!

this is the first year DS1 isn’t going to be here, as he’s away with his GF. Can’t be helped as it’s a special birthday for her. I’m hoping we’ll go out for dinner on another night!

MuddlingThroughLife · 23/03/2025 21:28

A nice card, some chocolate and a takeaway will do.

What I'd like most in the world though would be spending it with all 3 of my children instead of 2 and visiting DS in the cemetery.

GRCP · 23/03/2025 21:34

I know what I’m getting! Took my 2 to Sainsbury’s and let them choose me a card, book and bar of chocolate :-)

Penko25 · 23/03/2025 21:36

I agree with peace & quiet and a day to myself.

RosemaryRabbit · 23/03/2025 21:43

DH to be proactive.

Hedonism · 23/03/2025 21:52

A cup of tea in bed, and a card.
