Thread 17 - TalkLair: "Okay, first of all, what's with the outfit? Live in the now, okay? You look like DeBarge."

(Previous thread 16).

Spring is springing, daffodils blooming all over our LairGarden, which have not all been picked by a neighbour's kid...

In the TalkLair, the hearth is glowing, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, cosy rugs are down on the floors looking a bit stained by cat hairball regurgitation. The denizens of the lair are a welcoming bunch though, always eager for general chit-chat on all manner of topics. We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Oh my gosh, nowhere, unless it's a dreadfully awful place, can be the wrong place to post a photo of a beautiful grandchild! She really is a little beauty too. I'm not having to say that when I mean "they're all a bit odd when they come out." she already has a proper nose and is a little dote! Congratulations to you and yours, @moto748e 😍

moto748e · 05/05/2025 19:53

That sounds wonderful, Fags!

moto748e · 05/05/2025 19:56

Well, I'm biased, obviously! 😍

NoBinturongsHereMate · 05/05/2025 20:15

Congratulations, Moto. She looks noticeably less like Winson Churchill than most do at that age.

And Grace¹, that sounds a perfectly splendid day. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

¹ I really can't call you Fags while envisioning that outfit.

RasaSayangEh · 05/05/2025 20:22

Congratulations @moto748e and family, she's completely gorgeous! 😍

@FagsMagsandBags That sounds like a wonderful day and goodness it must be dusty in here because my eyes are tearing up...

Ooh, congratulations grandad@moto748e! Or are you going to be a grandpa, as mine was?

moto748e · 05/05/2025 20:23

Oh, I don't care about that sort of bollix, Gonners! 😀

Britinme · 05/05/2025 20:35

How lovely - so much nice news! I’m sure you looked stunning @FagsMagsandBagsand @moto748ethat is a beautiful baby, congratulations.

Gonners · 05/05/2025 21:22

That sounds like a wonderful party, @FagsMagsandBags. Laughed about the maths teacher ... was he the only male teacher at a girls' school, by any chance? We tormented our Geography teacher and everyone failed O-level ... because he taught us the wrong syllabus. With hindsight, I wonder if it was deliberate? I don't think so. He definitely never read our essays, as he made no comment on the random inserted paragraphs about irrelevant matters - my best friend got away with "As I look out of my window at dusk, I see the skellingtons dancing on the rooftops..." Funny, the stuff you remember over 50 years later!

weaselyeyes · 05/05/2025 22:06

Congratulations moto, what a lovely picture!

So glad you had such a special day, fags, and I’m greatly looking forward to a photo of your magnificent sounding outfit

SinnerBoy · 05/05/2025 22:40

What a beautiful day you had, Fags, I'm really glad for you, not least because you met your old school friends to reminisce so. I've gone all mushy now.

And Moto, of course it's the right place to post a photo of No 1 Granddaughter!

FagsMagsandBags · 05/05/2025 23:16

Gonners, he wasn't the only male teacher, although of course they were fewer on the ground. There was a point when there was only a couple of male teachers, but by the time of Mr N, we had a biology teacher, a history teacher who was brilliant, and a Latin teacher. I think that was all. Mr N was "picked on" for being the worst teacher in the whole school. I cringe that I was so awful but I know that it was because although we all found it funny we were all pretty frustrated that we were quite literally not being taught. He'd be writing in tiny numbers and letters on the blackboard while standing in front of it so we couldn't see what he was doing. Moving away, rubbing it out, starting again, speaking really quickly so we couldn't understand what he was saying and this was on repeat every lesson. Blaming us for not understanding but refusing to see that he needed to change the way he was(n't) teaching. So, we went from trying, actually hoping he'd get sacked for being so shit at teaching, realising that wasn't going to happen, to me threatening to jump out of the window for shits and giggles because we knew we were all doomed and that we'd get to resit next year with one of the sisters who could actually teach properly.

moto748e · 06/05/2025 01:42

Also, excuse me, but I've got to ask this! How many of you would have successfully sexed that pic?

My DS just sent the pic. He didn't initially add any comment to it.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 06/05/2025 01:52

Tricky question. It's easy to be brilliant in hindsight, with all the wrapping there's not a huge amount to go on, and the differences in babies are much more marginal (or haven't developed yet).

I think, if forced to pick one, I'd have said the chin is more likely to be female. But that could be blanket shadow.

moto748e · 06/05/2025 02:00

I just wondered if women were really more adept; of course, it's a stupid small sample size, but my initial thought was boy, but a lovely-looking child at any rate. 😀

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 06/05/2025 08:18

What a fabulous day, Fags, it sounds wonderfully surreal.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 06/05/2025 08:19

What a sweetie your granddaughter is moto. Yes, she does look like a girl, I think it's the chin but she just looks female.

moto748e · 06/05/2025 10:42

She is! I'll look forward to seeing her, obviously.

RasaSayangEh · 06/05/2025 10:45

I’m clearly no good at this, I think all babies look like tiny Winston Churchills.

OP posts:
Britinme · 06/05/2025 12:12

I thought she looked like a girl, but you’d already said granddaughter so I was primed to see her that way.

artant · 06/05/2025 13:22

Congratulations on your lovely granddaughter @moto748e - babies mostly look like babies to me so I’m not sure I’d have guessed her sex. She looks lovely though!

And that sounds like a perfect day @FagsMagsandBags and your outfit sounds fabulous!

RasaSayangEh · 06/05/2025 16:27

DDs had their Spanish oral GCSE today. Written exams start on Monday. Shit just got real...

OP posts:
NoBinturongsHereMate · 06/05/2025 16:29

Eek! Good luck to them both.

artant · 06/05/2025 16:57

Fingers firmly crossed for your DDs @RasaSayangEh and for all if you making it through the coming weeks without too much stress.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 06/05/2025 17:22

@RasaSayangEh hope it all went okay for them and fingers crossed for the other exams too.
