Practical steps to increase confidence/self-esteem please

My low confidence and self-esteem is hindering my life in lots of ways, im scared to get into a relationship, people make remarks at work about low assertiveness, I hide away from the world. It's almost an inconvenience that part of me wants more for myself. I am 37 and was hoping I would care less/be doing more.

Has anyone overcome social anxiety/low confidence/self-esteem? Are there practical steps you took? Or did you just learn to live with it?

It might sound daft but I started telling myself how lovely I looked every time I passed a mirror, sort of "You're looking gorgeous today SirRaymond". Even if I didn't feel it, it gave me a boost.
I also found a hypnosis download for 'I am enough' and started listening to that daily. It didn't take long to start feeling better about myself.
I made a point of doing something for myself every day, making time for myself rather than the people pleasing, doing stuff for everyone else I was doing.
