Has anyone who had hyperemesis managed to have a better pregnancy second time round, and is so, how?

Just that really.
had the worst hypermemesis, vomitted all day in and out of hospital for fluids throughout.
don’t really remember what medication was offered to me or what I took, this was 8 years ago and was a twin pregnancy so not sure if that made it worse.
id love another baby but want to prepare myself (if I’m lucky enough) on how to manage the sickness again or to hope it won’t be as bad?

My sister had 3 children and hyperemesis on all of them. There is a new medication that you can take called Cariban. My sister took it on no. 3 and avoided hospital altogether!

I was very ill with DD, threw up multiple times a day, lost 2 stone!
With DS I was queasy a lot but it wasn't so bad, I think part of the reason was that I wasn't working and so wasn't rushing around as much and could eat more regularly

I had awful HG with Dc1, hospitalised for fluids several time, took medication, it didn’t go until latter stage. Never a bit of sickness with Dc2, and she was born 12 months later.

Likewise, I threw up all day every day with no 1 and didn't with no 2.
I had heartburn instead…

I was very very sick with ds sometimes 30 times a day for 42 weeks with ds. With Dd i felt nauseous and was sick 1/2 times a day for the first 16 weeks but LIGHT YEARS away from pregnancy 1!

I’m afraid I had HG on all my pregnancies. I’ve had a boy and a girl but the HG was of the same severity. The good thing was I was soo prepared that I instantly was in the case with the GPs for anti sickness meds, was aware there were more than one to try and utilised a pregnancy called pregnancy sickness support for when I felt down in the dumps.

There’s a newly licensed medication called Xonvea that might provide some relief if you do suffer again. X

I had HG and was hospitalised a few times with my first pregnancy. My 2nd I had what I would
call “normal” morning sickness, my 3rd, I felt suck
but never actually vomited

Malbecmoron · 18/03/2025 22:13

Horrific sickness with first child all the way through the pregnancy, even during labour. Just normal morning sickness with second child.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 18/03/2025 22:14

I had it all pregnancy for the first, and for 5 months for the second.

thinkingofausername · 18/03/2025 22:16

I only had HG with my DD. Subsequent DS and I think I was sick twice at the beginning and that's it.

Mydogisamassivetwat · 18/03/2025 22:16

Nope. All 3 of mine, sickness from 5 weeks, still puking bile when I was laid on the table for the c sections. Utter hell, which is why I have massive age gaps (18 years between youngest and oldest!)

No drug worked. I was constantly throwing up and dehydrated. Lost stones in weight each time.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/03/2025 22:22

Nope. Even worse the second time if anything.
