Maybe, but that brings the possibility that the US is "offended" (again!), and retaliates in a different way. Also with Greenland, it would help if they could calm down before one NATO country attacks another.
From all that they are doing, they want_to be part of this, perhaps for their public image.
The problem is the European countries need to hold on to some of their own resources for defense; they can't just ship everything over, and production is slow, even if they are now ordering like crazy.
It would be better if the US was part of the defense for now, from a purely practical standpoint. In the long run of course Europe has to figure out something else.
I was slightly aghast at the video of Mark Rutte joking with Trump over Greenland at his recent visit. He did try to extract himself in the latter part of the conversation, though. I suppose he did not want a repeat of the Zelensky visit in front of the press, but it was still unbelievable he was laughing with him.
Someone here said Rutte has to say whatever in order to hold things together, and I agree with that, but he should have reacted more seriously in regard to Trump's Greenland comments.
