Are the PIP changes going to effect your eligibility?

Bluebanner · 18/03/2025 13:51

The main change proposed is that you will have to score FOUR points in at least one daily living category to be eligible for the benefit.

A huge number of people are going to lose their benefit because of this change.

Won't that also mean some people will now qualify when they didn't before also?

I presume it’s four points in one category plus however many points you need overall still?

Yes exactly. 8 points total but at least 4 in one category

Silly me, yes of course it will be, thank you.

They didn’t mention that you’d need less than 11 overall - just that 4 will need to come from the same category.

It's 12 for the enhanced rate.

Yes I receive enhanced on both components( i have Cerebral Palsy)
for daily living I have 2/3’s which make up the total but no 4 points
My 10 year review is due next January
im also in( old) ESA support group as I’m unable to work now
Really worried

Pancakerocker · 19/03/2025 00:15

I looked at my daughter's award even with the changes she would still get pip. She got 4 point in 2 of the catagorys.

octopusenergyfree50 · 19/03/2025 00:36

It's impossible to know, based on current award no it won't affect me but if I'm assessed as getting completely different points next time it might. There's no consistency in the assessments. I have had 4 with completely different awards each time when I am exactly the same!

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 19/03/2025 00:39

I should still qualify as I can't cook unsupervised.

4catsaremylife · 19/03/2025 01:43

My ASD ADHD daughter has just been declined Pip inspite of her last claim being fully awarded at tribunal.
She's been unable to get out of bed since yesterday due to burn out. I've had to wake her for fluids, she's not eaten since Monday evening. She'd love a job but since she can't leave the house alone and has days like today who's going to employ her? I have wept this evening with fury and frustration. I started work at 14 and still work full-time at 63 to pay for everything including a mortgage. She doesn't claim anything except pip because of the horrors I went through àt the job centre when I was previously unemployed so I couldn't put her through it. So many people are going to be harmed, but those avoiding work and gaming the system will still find a way. It's the genuine ones who will fade away and die quietly of starvation and neglect

Cancelthebreak · 19/03/2025 01:47

I will still be ok if I got the same points next time as I have 4 points in two categories at the moment. I do doubt whether I should be getting PIP at all as I don’t appear disabled.

GoldfinchesInTheTree · 19/03/2025 01:52

Does it come in now? My daughter is migrating from dla to pip but like pp is autisric/adhd and had mental health issues. I am concerned as I'm waiting for my pip forms to arrive...

I was already concerned they were prejudiced against non physical conditions. 😬.

Puyyt · 19/03/2025 01:55

Me.

10 points on mobility (unaffected)

10 points on daily living. All 2 point awards.

Caramelbingo · 19/03/2025 02:09

Won’t affect me, no. Feel sorry for those it will

ObsoleteHermit · 19/03/2025 02:17

I expect they will look to alter the activity questions now to make it harder to score 4points + for MH conditions. Much like when the planning & following a journey couldn't be due to pyschological distress which was later overuled by the courts as discriminatory.

ValentinesGranny · 19/03/2025 02:19

I cant work out whether I'm fortunate or not. In the care sction I score so highly I qualify several times over and 12 in the moving around section so won't be affected.

sadmillenial · 19/03/2025 03:22

Its very worrying for people with ME/CFS or Long Covid. Most of the symptoms follow a "boom then bust" cycle, which means the questions about needing assistance to do tasks "all the time" will be dismissed.

I agree this will be catastrophic I think they will come for anyone with those diagnosis and things like fibromyalgia etc anything they usually get click bait headlines from anything ‘invisible’ - thing is many of people want to work but who would employ us? And many of us sat festering on huge NHS wait lists when we could be well

Reginald123 · 19/03/2025 07:27

I was debating about whether to apply for PIP as have CPalsy but I am mobile on crutches but my mobility has deteriorated over the years and I fall more . clawed hands mean it is difficult to keep hold of the crutches.

However, I can walk 200 metres and can zap a microwave meal so don't think I will qualify now. I have never claimed anything but thought PIP would help with taxis and all the extra costs of not being able to open tins etc

It is a difficult one as until I was 50 I worked and paid a lot of taxes but struggled in to work while other more mobile friends claimed PIP so it is understand that the current system is unaffordable and the PIP bill can't continue to grow - just personally frustrating when my friend goes out for 3 meals per week as she gets PIP but is mobile and capable of work . She gets frustrated with me as my focus is on heating rather than restaurants!

Although you can walk 200 metres this is not repeatedly, reliably or to an acceptable standard due to risk of falls as you cannot effectively grasp your crutches.

Pinging a pre prepared meal does not count as cooking. You will have difficulty preparing food due to issues with hands

Please put this in your application. With as much evidence as possible.

dialfor · 19/03/2025 07:42

I have over 20 points in the care section and 3 of the criteria are made up of 4,4 and 6 so as it is I would still qualify. My award is for 10 years and I still have more than half of it left so i feel a bit ‘safe’ until then. On review I’m almost certain they won’t award me the same amount of points which will result in my losing it altogether.

DF has been on PIP for almost 10 years, he gets standard daily living element and it’s all made up of 2’s. He is in light touch as he is over retirement age now but if they take this from him he would have to try and claim AA as he does need the money. That has no mobility element so he would lose his automatic entitlement to a BB - our council are brutal at assessing for these if you don’t automatically qualify too, but the standard mobility is far less than he would get if he were to qualify for standard AA

Reginald123 · 19/03/2025 08:44

Thank you very much @moreorlessbutnotquite for the advice.

Saw an OT recently who said I was too positive about what I can do for PIP and you are saying the same. She suggested I needed to sit on the sofa more. ..

i don't have that much evidence as last saw a neurologist 10 plus years ago and lucky to see the GP once a year as a "chronic" who has baclofen and morphine type pain patch prescription for bone issues and extra painkillers.

My problem is that I am still working ( part time one hour a day freelance as no one would employ me as can use one finger so earning less than the minimum wage cos of my lack of speed) so still paying taxes to (in my mind) pay for my friend's PIp - but work is good for the brain ...

I will think about applying but afraid thd application may be counterproductive as my coping mechanism is to think things aren't too bad - that is probably the wrong attitude for a Pip application

ParsnipPuree · 19/03/2025 09:08

Will everyone on PIP be reassessed? Sorry if this has been answered.
