just watching the first episode of Adolescence, quite a frightening start. How do the school scenes compare to your local schools?

I used to work in a place like this though I wasn't a teacher. It was a disadvantaged area. It was very similar to this.

Definitely my experience.

The ‘holding pen’ comment was quite poignant

I just watched the whole thing. It was really good. I didn’t realise but every episode was made as a single shot. Probably one of the most realistic crime shows out there.

My kids said their school isn't as chaotic as that one and the majority of the teachers wouldn't tolerate that level of rudeness.

I finished it last night and thought it was really dull and over sentimental.

It reminded me of ITV dramas. Lots of close-ups of people crying and angry.

I loved seeing Mark Stanley who played Grenn in GOT though.

Watched this a couple of times now. Does anyone else think Stephen Graham’s actual wife would have been amazing as she was in Boiling Point?
Hannah Walters so superb and not putting Christine Tremarco down as I think she was AMAZING but I can’t really understand the disconnect?

I have started watching it tonight..it is absolutely the best TV I have watched for a long time… it’s also terrifying.

Haven't watched this yet, but lots of chat about it, obviously.

One thing though: does anyone else think that 13 is a bit young an age for the child involved in what he does?

I know it's based on a few RL events, but 13 is too young, surely?

The age of RL perpetrators is usually 15 upwards.

Seems like a timely and well-made series, but just seems odd to me that the age is so young...add a couple of years, maybe...

Any thoughts/explanations?

W12Mum · 07/04/2025 06:44

@JandLandG I'm afraid not it starts from as early as 9....

Dontlletmedownbruce · 02/09/2025 19:26

I'm a bit late to the game here just finished it.. I wasn't sure was the kid radicalised and vulnerable or an evil person. I think he had a cruel violent nature and it didn't take much to radicalise him. The parents seem to think they could have saved him by not letting him online.

@JandLandG I don't know if you are familiar with the Anna Kriegel murder. That's what I thought of throughout the whole thing. Different facts and circumstances but the perpetrator was 13.

I too was horrified by the school. I was hoping it was all exaggerated for the show. I felt the show could have explored the victims best friend angle more, she too was violent and seemed to think the other boy was at fault. It implies there was a whole history of communication online within the group that we never saw.
