What do you store on narrow, deep shelves next to a fridge. Have bought a house with these floor to ceiling and don’t know what to do with them. If I put stuff in them like tins or bottles I can only see what’s at the very front so not much use!

I don’t get the point of them.

Property / DIY?
Housekeeping ?

ViolentBeaver · 16/03/2025 16:02

Can you fit a Lazy Susan on them? Then you can spin it round to see what's on it.

Chopping boards?

LauderSyme · 16/03/2025 16:06

I was going to suggest storing chopping boards and trays. Or small appliances like blender, coffee maker, rice cooker etc, if wide enough. Or bottles of booze!

No they’re pretty narrow. About two coke cans wide

Can you get baskets that fit so you can put tea towels etc in them.

Are they bookshelves for cookery books ?

Perhaps. I only have about 4 though and never use them!

Baking trays and cupcake tins?

Sunnysidegold · 16/03/2025 17:22

Mine are slightly wider maybe three coke cans, but the depth of our fridge so stuff gets lost.
I bought the pull out bin frames from IKEA and put and deep basket in it. I have this on four shelves. The others I have baskets in for baking stuff and crisps.

Yours is maybe meant for a pull out larder shelf? But you'd think they would have fitted those initially...you would have spices and stuff could fit.

Doe you know where the kitchen is from? Maybe you could get some sort of insert so you can utilise the space.

knephew · 16/03/2025 17:24

@Sunnysidegold same! If I put more than a few bottles in there I’d never see them again. And spices would be a no-no. it’s not easy to see what’s in there. It’s an ikea kitchen so, yes could look for pull out things, good idea.

When we had similar, I made "steps" using bricks - but anything similar would work and then the stuff at the back was raised up so you could still see it.

knephew · 16/03/2025 21:52

@ViolentBeaver but it’s about 2 coke cans wide by 2 coke cans high. And there’s 5 of them. I can’t make steps?

@knephew

Sorry - I'd missed the height!

Noseyoldcow · 17/03/2025 16:42

I have narrow shelves next to my fridge. I use some of them for wine storage and some of them for cookbooks/ appliance instruction books.
