Motorbike test - first try

Car test (in Tooting) - failed twice
Rebooked in Reading where it wasn't constant gridlock, and passed

Itsabeautifulthing · 15/03/2025 17:34

1st time, manual and i was 8 months pregnant. Then didnt drive for a long time as I was too anxious driving with 3 young children.

Got an automatic a few years ago and now drive every day & love it.

CarpetKnees · 15/03/2025 17:38

3rd attempt manual

Rivari · 15/03/2025 17:51

First time age 17 but this was in the 90s! I don't know if it was easier then?

DramaAlpaca · 15/03/2025 17:55

I passed third time. Took test twice before I went to university and failed both, can't remember why. After university I had a few lessons and passed test number three soon after. Forty years ago this year!

oakl79 · 15/03/2025 19:41

1st attempt theory and practical (manual)

MirrorMirror1247 · 15/03/2025 19:46

First attempt, aged 19, in a manual. I did have 11 minors though!

Singhamh · 15/03/2025 19:49

Anyone ever had a termination because their driving was that bad?

RedRiverShore5 · 15/03/2025 19:54

I did have to perform a real emergency stop on mine because a dog ran in front of me, The test man did as well I think, I spent the rest of the test thinking I had failed but I passed

PeppiKoala · 15/03/2025 19:56

5!

SilverBlueRabbit · 15/03/2025 19:57

1st time, 35 years ago and in my home country where I think it was a heck of alot easier than nowadays in the UK. Simple theory test of about 20 questions and a 30 minute practical.

I have often wondered if I would ever pass nowadays although I am a safe and good driver.

FirFoxSake · 15/03/2025 19:57

First time, felt lucky though!

DietHelp · 15/03/2025 20:01

1st for me. My uncle had been killed 3 days before and I genuinely didn’t care whether I passed or failed at that time as there was so much other stuff going on. I think my genuine not arsedness meant I wasn’t at all anxious and that probably helped!

Chilliflakesontuna · 15/03/2025 20:04

Did 3 tests in quick succession before I trained for my job , failed all 3.
Took up lessons 3 years later once qualified, had 6 lessons, a test and passed.

I always say "I passed first time , second time around" but realistically obviously, I passed 4th time.

My cousin took 6!

Sorry to hear about your uncle.

I passed the theory test first time. I passed the practical one on the fourth go.

The first time, I had a very nice examiner, but didn't look obviously enough (for his liking) on a roundabout with about five lanes, half a dozen exits and four sets of traffic lights to choose from.

The second time, I had a terrifying examiner who reminded me of a Maths teacher. I always hated maths... and then I got lost. I couldn't find the hospital that I was supposed to drive to in a maze of identical terraced houses with taxis outside... it's much harder when you have to learn to drive in a town that you are unfamiliar with, and with a scary driving examiner in the passenger seat.

The third time, my anxiety was too much for me. I complained that anxiety is very expensive to accommodate, given that I had to book more lessons and yet another test.

The fourth time, I must have done a reasonable job, but I was still amazed that I passed.

Since then, I have taught myself to drive on the motorway, use Google Maps to get anywhere unfamiliar, and have been to plenty of different places in my little car!

BogRollBOGOF · 15/03/2025 20:08

2nd time; one lesson and three weeks after the first. Mid-morning on a regular test route compared to 8:40 on a new route with unfamiliar roads definitely helped. I think I had one minor on the pass for only two hours extra driving experience.

Pebbles16 · 15/03/2025 20:10

Second. Failed my first because of the 1987 hurricane and driving conditions being "somewhat unusual" ie trees on the road, not being able to drive at speed etc.
In those days you could rebook immediately and I passed five days later.

itsgettingweird · 15/03/2025 20:10

First time manual 3 minors in 90’s.

ds 1st time auto no minors 2023!!!!

Chuchoter · 15/03/2025 20:12

Passed first time. Six lessons and a 3/4 lesson on the day of the test en route to the test centre.

  1. That was an average amount of lessons.

I think it's around 94 nowadays! 😩
