Have you got solar panels?

Just that really, if you do was it a good investment?
I'm contemplating getting them, but wondering if the forecasts are accurate and we'll see a return in 8 to 10 years. Do you sell back to the grid? Soooo many questions.

Yes. Have had them for 2 years. Sell excess back to the grid. Fantastic.

Paulrn · 14/03/2025 20:06

Had them a year and it’s been fantastic. I would advise only doing it if you have a battery or two with it. Between march and October we spent absolutely nothing on electricity and between may and September sold enough to pay for the gas we used and for all the standing charges currently we pay £80 per month for gas and electricity and I am expecting to get about half of that back by the end of the next year.

Love mine, had them over 10 years. Had batteries installed a few years ago. Then an ASHP last winter.

Livedandlearned · 14/03/2025 20:14

Same as @Paulrn and love the combination.

Livedandlearned · 14/03/2025 20:15

Sorry I mean the same as @notapizzaeater

Yes. Had them installed 2 years ago. We've got 1 battery too (5kw I think).
We buy very little electricity for most of the year. In fact I'm waiting to see if the 'no standing charge' tariffs become available as I'm pretty sure this will be cheaper for us. We sell surplus through Octopus (currently at 15p per kwh)

On my van yes. Means I can be off grid for a week or so.

On my house, no. I’d only do that if I could afford, and had the space for, the batteries to make my energy completely free.

APurpleSquirrel · 14/03/2025 20:29

We had a guy over today to work out if it would be worth it & turns out even though our house roof isn't great (odd shape) our garage is!
If we get approved for the finance, we're going ahead with it.

Octopus are currently doing interest free credit on panels and batteries. If you want a referral I can share my code, we get £50 each. My mums just signed with them and they are installing them in April.
