My enormous block paved driveway needs cleaning

I had a company in to some work in my garden, as part of that they jet washed the patio. They've been lovely to deal with and done a good job, so I've asked them to quote for doing the drive.

It is very dirty and very big, 104sq mtr, it has a lot of black spot which I understand is hard to shift.

The quote to jet wash, re-sand and reseal, which apparently gives a 3 year guarantee against weeds and blacksmith, is.....£800

Now, when they break it down I can see how they've come to that figure, but it can't be more than a couple of days work?

The price for the garden work was very reasonable, and they have been very good, I was expecting this to be a no brainer, but?

Have you costed it?
We just bought some brick sealer from Screwfix. One coat patio sealer is about £30 for 5 ltr. That does 25-30 sq Mr. So you'd need 4 of those

Don't know how much sand you'd need, but that was surprisingly expensive too.

ETA. Oh, and it took DH days to re sand all the bricks.

Sounds very reasonable to me! And possibly more than two days work.

Blimey! I wish they were working round here. I’d knock their hand off.

BellaVita · 13/03/2025 09:36

I would bite their hand off.

Gosh I'm sure I paid about £400 last time I had it done, although it will be a while ago.

I thought the price would be reasonable, based on how reasonable the garden work was, but that's a lot of money to spend on your drive!

Depends whether it’s important to you to have it looking good. If it doesn’t matter, leave it. If it does and you trust the company and have had previous good service, do it.

You get get other quotes maybe, but knowing and trusting a company is important I think.
