Drink & Gambling

Reading the threads here its clear that there are two major issues that come up which is problems caused by drinking and gambling.

Now I am not so naive that I think we can end problem drinking and problem gambling but steps can be taken to reduce the consumption of alcohol and the availability and convenience of gambling.

In case anyone thinks it cant be done the Blair Government legislated both to relax licensing hours for alcohol and reduced restrictions on gambling.

So despite the problems caused by excessive drinking and problem gambling why are there no widely supported campaigns to reinstate some of the old restrictions on these industries and introduce new ones to prevent the harms they cause.

You only have to look at tobacco control to see that it can be done and it does work.

I don't really think Tobacco control has worked. People (including kids) now vape and there is less money going towards tax as people buy less tobacco or buy it outside of the UK. I do think there should be tighter controls on gambling. As for alcohol, irs a hard one as many people enjoy a drink without having a problem

Money. Tobacco, gambling and alcohol spend vast amounts to prevent legislation. That Denise Coates the CEO of Bet365 is a multi billionaire should tell you how much money there is just in online betting.
