An excess of port, how can I use it up?

A pantry clearout this weekend has left me with 3 unopened bottles of M&S Port.

We don't drink it and I don't know anyone who does, short of binning it, how do I get rid of it?

Any amazing recipes out there? What about poached pears?

Can you donate it to any local fund raisers as raffle prizes?

If you lived near me I would take it off your hands for the charity I volunteer with.

Chutney? Onion, port Chutney? Be lovely Christmas time as port, fig chutney for cheeseboard.

Is there a particular reason why you don’t drink it? Because if you don’t like the taste of it, it’s puzzling that you’d want recipes that will taste of Port.

I'm just not great at drinking alcohol, I've got nothing against it and don't hate the taste.

That's a great idea, thank you.

We get those only in the festive season (Christmas port in our house). There's some cold nights coming back. I'd be drinking them late in the pm with a little cheese or a little chocolate and would think I was quite lucky for the party leftover 😆

It’s great in gravy/gravy-based dishes and pretty much any recipe you’d add wine to.

AdaColeman · 10/03/2025 07:56

Poached pears is a good idea, or add some to any gravy, or casserole/stew.
Try melon with port as a starter, use the small melon type such as cantaloupe, half, and scoop out the seeds, then fill the hollows with port. Serve half a melon per person.

I'll PM you with my address! Smile

Like others have said, donate it for a Christmas raffle

gamerchick · 10/03/2025 13:32

Id donate them. Charities or schools always have a tombola cupboard or make hampers for raffles

DilemmaDelilah · 10/03/2025 13:33

I love love LOVE port!

It will keep if you don't want to drink it - you could just keep it for next Christmas?

TooManyNiblings · 10/03/2025 15:31

Use it in gravy? That's what I use any alcohol for if we won't drink as is.

NebulousDogBollocking · 10/03/2025 15:39

That was my first thought @OhBuggerandArse , bloody lovely 🙂

I too would use it in stews and gravies, as PPs have suggested, instead of red wine.
