Help me with waves ks3 year 7 science question!

My daughter has a test tomorrow. She is the type to get very frustrated and we have been arguing.

Is this true about waves? (from ChatGPT)

Transverse waves: Vibrations move perpendicular (at 90°) to the direction the wave travels.
Longitudinal waves: Vibrations move parallel to the direction the wave travels.

However she is swearing blind her teachers taught her the opposite of this! (she says transverse is parallel, and longitudinal is perpendicular).

Help me tell her that either she is wrong or is she right??

Which is right?

Here - www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zcsg3j6#zr3np4j

A transverse wave is one in which the vibrations of the particles are at right angles to the direction in which the energy of the wave travels.

A longitudinal wave is one in which the vibrations of the particles are parallel to the direction in which the energy of the wave travels.

It is possible the teacher got confused. I say this as a science teacher who always has to double check myself before I teach this. 😬
