Ladies how much do you spend on clothes

How much do you spend on clothes monthly ?
I spend approx £100 a month.
i never buy high price items but rarely shop at low end shops. Mostly High street shops.
I feel like this is indulgent. I’m trying to cut it back as I could be saving the money.
i don’t go into any debt as better off than I’ve ever been. But I guess the money could go on other things.
I used to hardly spend anything and this is my indulgence. I wonder if that plays a part now as I could never afford it.
My only other treats are odd meals out and occasional social events.
Interested to see what you ladies spend and also if not clothes any indulgences ?

I rarely buy clothes and only when I really need them. I bought new bras recently and some secondhand jeans. However, I'm probably not typical as I'm not bothered about my appearance. I don't own makeup, my hubby cuts my hair once or twice a year and I do a dirty, manual job so wear jeans, work boots and old t shirts or jumpers most of the time.

Introducingme · 09/03/2025 16:12

Too much 🤣🤣

QuickCat · 09/03/2025 16:13

Nothing most months. I've had it with consumerism. I've plenty of clothes!

Kitkat10025 · 09/03/2025 16:14

I only get what I need so can go ages without buying anything

RichardOsmansfondueset · 09/03/2025 16:16

Probably about £300 over a year, I've gone up a dress size in the last year so have had to buy some bigger clothes. I do love buying new clothes though, I definitely get a dopamine boost. Mostly high street fashion and Vinted.

ScholesPanda · 09/03/2025 16:16

About £100 a month here too. I don't see that as especially indulgent, it certainly doesn't get me much anything in the way of designer gear.

More 'high-end' purchases tend to be shoes or outdoor coats, as they can last for years and don't tend to need changing if my weight fluctuates slightly.

Mingenious · 09/03/2025 16:18

Very little. Maybe £200 a year, probably not even that. I buy a lot in charity shops and wear clothes until they literally fall to pieces.

Hedgerow2 · 09/03/2025 16:21

Next to nothing. I'm retired and do lots of gardening/dog walking. I live in jeans, cargo trousers, t shirts, hoodies, boots and trainers - all of which I have a plentiful supply. On the very rare occasion I need to wear something smarter I dig out my old work clothes.

pattyparsnip · 09/03/2025 16:26

On average Around 100 a month I usually have a spree around this time of year as it's my birthday and all new season clothes are coming in . I love clothes and fashion . I can afford it so don't feel guilty.

onetwothreefourfive11 · 09/03/2025 16:26

£250 every season
Then an outfit on top of there is an occasion.

Winter was around £100 from October - Feb as I just bought a £400 coat and threw on 4-5 year old clothes (basics) underneath

AFLifeForLife · 09/03/2025 16:26

I very rarely buy clothes. I simply cannot imagine £100 a month as i don't have that sort of disposable income spare.

What I do though (and it is slightly joyless I confess) is I buy clothes in the same colour palate. Mainly blues and greys and pinks. They suit me, it means I can mix and match and I will very rarely spend a larger amount on an item I know will last me. I prefer to branch out on accessories. I also have more recently 'shopped my wardrobe' and will bring out items I have not worn for ages and re-style them.

I am quite a conservative dresser though it has to be said. I don't have the figure or money to currently aim for anything other than being extremely presentable. I make sure everyhting is clean, well-mended and ironed and will add whimsy with scarfs or jewellery. I have recently bought a number of necklaces or earrings from small independents that are essentially one-offs but not terribly expensive.

Lavenderandbrown · 09/03/2025 16:38

If you are talking socks undergarments bras coats uniforms shoes the whole kit then yes 100$ for me also. I wear a uniform covered by a lab coat so while this decreases my need for “dress clothes” I still buy something monthly This month I bought 3 Figs long sleeve tees to wear under scrubs socks 2 bras and a dress to wear to wedding in April The t shirts were 90$ alone but will last 2 years and I threw the others away. The dress on sale 299$ down to 85$ and I had been watching it since early December Socks Amazon again a replacement got rid of all the others and two bras deep clearance 12.50$ wacoal I too have more disposable income now and I have worn a uniform my entire life ….all my school except uni and all my work life. I rarely buy used…it doesn’t fit well and can’t find what I like. I often think of a poster who said they wore cashmere all sourced from charity or vinted and I thought whaattt??? I never see that kind of item. I ordered from Mercari…a jcrew shirt and I wear lots of their brand…not as described too big. I love clothes in every species shoes to hats and I’m very particular about my appearance but I still feel my volume overall is not excessive as I wear it all and enjoy it all. I also rewear items again and again in the season what is sometimes called capsule wardrobe and I don’t care if I have the same item on around the same people over and over

GreenMarigold · 09/03/2025 16:38

I probably spend £30 a month on average. Last month it was a pair of wellies.

TidyDancer · 09/03/2025 16:45

Not very much at all really. Maybe £50 some months but most months nothing. I'm not very good at spending money on what I consider luxuries. I spent most of my life not having the money to treat myself to anything. I'm in a better position now than I've been before but I try to save as much as possible.

I had to leave my last job urgently because I was bullied so badly I've been left with anxiety and PTSD as a result so I feel more comfortable having savings than I do having 'things'.

Mydogisamassivetwat · 09/03/2025 16:48

Fuck all, one got no money.

I only wear leggings, t shirts and sweat shirts. Replacement leggings when they get holes, probably every 18 months. I replace t shirts and jumpers in supermarket sales, or sometimes get lucky in the charity shops. Socks and underwear when worn out and I have two bras which I wear for years until they die.

I reckon I spend about £80 - £100 a year.

SunsetCocktails · 09/03/2025 16:51

I've got a huge wardrobe full of clothes, these days I mostly buy from charity shops if something catches my eye, so maybe no more than £30 a month. Only things I really buy from new are underwear, swimwear and shoes/trainers.

MidnightMeltdown · 09/03/2025 16:55

I don't think that £100 a month is particularly indulgent. However I tend to shop mid-range high street, where these days, £100 would be one item on average - so approx 12 items per year on your budget.

On top of that, I would buy basics and wfh clothes from cheaper places like M&S.

I don't really have a set budget per month. Last year I probably spent about £200 per month on average, as I was renewing quite a lot of my wardrobe. However this year, I haven't bought any clothes at all so far. I haven't even been tempted to look as I feel satisfied with what I have for now.

I try to buy quality stuff that lasts, but still, I tend to feel the need to completely overhaul my wardrobe approximately every 5 years. It's not really about fashion so much as aging, and the associated changes in tastes and body shape. At 30, I no longer wanted to wear what I was wearing at 25, at 40, I won't want to wear what I was wearing at 35 etc.

Dollydaydream100 · 09/03/2025 17:00

I go through phases and as I'm bigger than I'd like atm I haven't been buying much lately. I've also got a dressing room full of clothes that I never get opportunity to wear for instance I must have 30/40 pairs of jeans! I have been living in sweaty Betty leggings and T-shirts for a while now! All I've bought so far this year are two jumpers from next. I'm waiting to have a shopping trip when I reach my weight loss goal (currently on mounjaro). Last year I spent a lot though, developed a bit of a free people habit and spent thousands and also bought a LV handbag and a few pairs of Gucci shoes.

I have my eye on a Gucci handbag when I get to goal as a reward. I think I'm a bit bipolar as I will have phases where I go a bit crazy, overspend and get a real "high" from shopping and then il have a long phase of not being at all bothered about shopping. I've definitely moved into a more "buy less/buy better" phase as I've got older.

Thecomfortador · 09/03/2025 17:13

Simply couldn't afford £100 per month, I often wonder how many clothes other people have - do you get rid of things you no longer wear regularly if you're buying every month? I probably buy a few things through the year, depends on what's worn out or if I see something I particularly like and feel I can justify spending on it. Often I'll look, fantasise but not buy. Working from home I don't need to make sure I'm particularly presentable, but might buy something if I'm going to the office.

biscuitsandbooks · 09/03/2025 17:15

About £400 a year including clothes for my business - it would be much less if I didn't need to buy walking boots, waterproof gear and wellies (I'm a dog walker).

Mindyourfunkybusiness · 09/03/2025 17:19

Ironically when I was younger, waaaaaaay too much. Now I'm much better off, and I barely buy clothes. Last time I got a pair of jeans a week ago but before that was 2 years prior, because my second pair of jeans ripped.
I still have my designer from youth, some things I couldn't part with, but I live in jeans and t shirts living my happiest life! I spend way more on kitchen gadgets and food though 😂

Avotoast9 · 09/03/2025 17:28

Nothing. I am so embarrassed. I wear the same clothes every day. There is nothing wrong with them and they are clean, but it's still embarrassing. I will have to buy something weather appropriate for the summer though🤦 My DD has a nice wardrobe and that's the most important thing. Like everything in life it's about choice. Id rather have a fridge full of healthy food and be able to do things with DD than have many outfits. Plus I really hate clothes shopping!

Don’t be embarrassed, I am the same. The same leggings, t shirts and jumpers year in year out. It’s my shoes that get to me the most. One pair of trainers, one pair of wellies worn until they are worn out.

Loveduppenguin · 09/03/2025 17:33

I spent 20 this month on a cardigan and that’s it but to be honest…my mum buys A LOT of clothes and then decides she doesn’t need/want them or they don’t suit, this month she gave me a pair of jeans and a pair of Veja trainers and she bought me a cardigan. So I look like I spend a lot but I don’t. Last month she gave me a top 🤣

starpatch · 09/03/2025 17:37

Around £250 in the last year, that was a new coat, new shoes and some charity shop trousers. Hopefully this next year will be a lot cheaper though as the coat and shoes were bought to last.
