Builder's Insurance

I've put this in Chat as it's not specifically about building works.

We are having some structural work done to our house. In case anything were to go wrong. ... do people tend to ask builders to show them a copy of their insurance certificate?

I don't want to offend but equally it's important to ensure they are covered!

I didn't last time we had some work done but wish I had. I will do in future, don't worry if they are offended if so go elsewhere.

Yes I need to protect myself/my house because it could be horrendous if something went wrong!
