Renewing driving licence

I’m not sure if I’m just being dense but I can’t make head nor tail of it.

I need to renew my licence as it’s expiring after 10 years.
I’ve tried to do it online but it can’t verify my identity as my passport is in my maiden name and my licence is in my married name. it told me to fill out the D1 form.

Do I need to do a new photo and prove my identity? Will I be able to renew licence even though my passport is in another name? Can anyone advise which sections I’ll need to fill out?

Yes if you do a paper application you'll need a photo. I dont think you'll need to prove your identity as you'll be sending off your old licence with the updated photo.

You can also apply at some post offices. You'd need to check which ones offer the service though

Just done this recently and my passport had expired too so couldn't use it to prove identity. You need a new photo but you don't need anyone to verify it's you. Put new photo and old drivers licence in the envelope with your filled out form (don't forget your postal order to the DVLA!) and that's it. Took about 10 days to send it back to me.
