Work in childcare, strong immune system I’m hardly ever sick, but oh my god this virus has been sent from the devil to test me I’m sure of it!
Started exactly a week ago with a headache, thought nothing of it, then a sore throat. As of today I have a blocked nose, watery eyes, standard with a cold but the cough is something else!!! Not only am I waking myself up in the middle of the night with it but waking up the whole house, it’s a painful, chesty, mucusy (sorry!!!!) cough and it is just awful. But the weirdest thing is I’m only coughing at night?!
Why on earth does the cough only come out at night! And when will this go away !!!! Anyone else suffering????

I had this worse at night cough about 18 months ago when the strep A was bad, and you couldn’t get the antibiotic liquid for kids.
The only thing that saved me was Night Nurse

It's worse at night because you are lying down. Try sleeping propped up on pillows.

We've had this in our household - the cough is something else. Managed to shake it after 2 weeks

Some of my colleagues have had the cough for almost three weeks now! Whatever it is, it’s insane !!

Could not agree more re night nurse. I had this twice in Oct/Nov and was honestly on my knees, I’m never usually ill and it was relentless, night nurse was an absolute life saver! Really hope you’re feeling better soon

Good advice

Dad, though his was COPD and the lungs rather than lots of coughing, found this the very best position for Him. In the end he actually slept at night propped up on the sofa but He had a footrest and blankets. Worked for Him
Try the propped up option OP

OP I had it and it turned into pneumonia, I know someone who had it for weeks and finally shook it off, and my mates toddler got and tired to hospital with pneumonia after having it too. I don't know if it's the same respiratory bug that we all had but whatever is going round this year seems very powerful, so take it as easy as you can...

If you can, get a flu test from the pharmacy. It sounds like the Influenza B going around.

Sounds exactly what we had round our way, was it bad, got a bit better then bad again? It was 3-4 weeks for us, and a couple of us had it turn into pneumonia. Please take it easy if you have it! The doctor who gave me antibiotics said it hangs around for weeks and has been sweeping through Europe as well as here apparently.

PersephonesPomegranate · 07/03/2025 15:51

I had this. Doctor diagnosed me with bronchitis. I honestly thought it was pneumonia but apparently because my oxygen levels were Ok, it couldn't be that. It's taken two different kinds of antibiotics and two inhalers to even start shifting it. Still not 100% after about 6 weeks.

My colleagues have described it as lingering..! I’m not sure as I’ve only been ill for a week, today’s the worst day so far, headache, watery eyes runny nose and that cough that kept me (and DP!) up all night last night 🄲 hope you are all ok!

I looked up influenza b symptoms, not sure if I have a fever as no thermometer and I don’t have severe fatigue or chills (yet..?) so veering more towards a bad cold. But I have completely lost my appetite which is unlike me!

I've just had a yucky virus too. Not Covid (tested) though apparently there are four main viruses going round - Covid, Flu, common colds, RSV. Yours sounds like it could be RSV? Hope you feel better soon Flowers
