When was the last time you properly laughed?

My colleagues make me laugh.
I have watched some reels on insta tonight that made me laugh out loud.
My best friend still makes me wet myself with laughter.

But I remember years ago when my babies were small, I'd spend HOURS cackling away with tears in my eyes (no exaggeration) at the threads on MN.

Where is the comedy now? Is it me? Is it society? Am I in the wrong place? Help me!

I want to laff!

While there are some very funny posts on MN I find it to be a rather humourless place overall. So many oh-so-serious posters with no sense of humour or fun. Sad really.

petuladaisy · 07/03/2025 01:10

I can't honestly remember. Maybe six months ago.

MarkingBad · 07/03/2025 01:27

I laugh a lot but I've a silly sense of humour.

A couple of days ago I complained about a smell in the washing machine, DM misheard and asked randomly, "Did you taste it then?"

I started to laugh and replied, "I've been very fortunate in that I lack the imagination to taste a lot of the smells produced in my vicinity"

(I have spent most of my life in the countryside and alongside men.)

It just tickled me, we both laughed out loud.

I spoke to two strangers while out shopping today, one I instigated, the other overheard me saying something to my friend and said something funny, and had a laugh with both, it brightens the day.

MN can seem pretty humourless at times but there are many funny people on here so I have come across some really amusing comments.

This afternoon. Laughed until it hurt. It was great!

NattyTurtle59 · 07/03/2025 04:46

I forgot to say, I laugh a lot, at all sorts of silly things.

cuddlem · 07/03/2025 18:26

@BeaAndBen what made you laugh so hard? Would love to know!

I am very silly too but I wouldn't say I was funny as in witty. Occasionally maybe by pure chance. I admire the ability to make others laugh so much, what a skill!

I'm childish...

Last weekend my mum bent over to get something out of the fridge and did the loudest fart ever. DD and I looked at her 😲 she said "was that me?"

We were helpless laughing for ages, in fact we were still laughing about it this morning..."Mummy, do you remember when Nanny trumped!" Giggles all the way to school.

I think it was funnier because Nanny Doesn't Pop Off.

I went to see Much Ado About Nothing at the Theatre Royal. It’s not often you can say a Shakespeare production has you laughing until you wished you’d taken Tena Lady adverts more seriously.

I had no idea what to expect from
that particular production. But it was glorious, silly, witty, daft and charismatic. I felt like I’d had a holiday from real life by the time it finished

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 07/03/2025 21:08

I don't care if it's "bad" for me, every night I get into bed and look at TikTok for about half an hour or so and almost every night I will come across a video that has me wheezing with laughter. It lifts my spirits so much. Then I take out my kindle and read usually a dark or murderous story before going to sleep!

Overtheatlantic · 07/03/2025 21:10

Last weekend watching a show about couples buying a house in Spain, and the presenter and the wife were normal colour white and the husband was bright red. I don’t know why but I couldn’t stop laughing at his crispy red face.

HubBub102 · 07/03/2025 21:19

This morning, me and a friend were talking about horror books and The Excorsist got brought up.
She said if her daughter started running around the house like a crab, head rotating, telling her that her mother sucks cocks in hell, the last thing she'd do is keep her in the bedroom upstairs.
Her hysterical suggestion.. She'd just set her free in 24 hour Tesco until she behaved herself. It's been making me giggle all day.

madaffodil · 07/03/2025 21:20

I follow a load of 'cats doing silly things' stuff on Facebook, and that usually gives me a good chuckle every day.

There have been times when I've been crying with laughter at threads on MN, but that doesn't happen much these days. I blame Putin. And Covid.

Sal17690 · 07/03/2025 21:23

I teach 7 year olds. Yesterday they wrote disgusting poems inspired by the Twits. I cried with laughter reading them out loud. We all laughed so hard at them. It was a wonderful moment!

TourneeDuChatNoir · 07/03/2025 21:24

I can be set off quite easily. Someone sent me a video today of that Disney duet by Peter Andre and Katie Price, and that did for me for a good ten minutes. Before that, it was something I watched on YouTube about terrible AI-created school yearbooks. It's weird because I'm quite a depressed person generally, but I seem to have a hair-trigger laughing reflex.

SabreIsMyFave · 07/03/2025 21:24

Sorry to sound cheesy but I laugh most days, and sometimes at things my DH comes out with. Sometimes he is funny unintentionally. (He drives me mad occasionally, but most some days he makes me laugh with the daft, and funny things he says.)

We watch lots of comedy too, and look at silly memes and funny YouTube videos, and we do laugh out loud. My 2 DD make me laugh too some days. They're clever and funny!

Last time I laughed. Today. I proper belly laughed at an episode of The IT Crowd ... The Haunting Of Bill Crouse. 😆

xyz111 · 07/03/2025 21:28

A couple of nights ago. DS was watching Leo on Netflix and at the end the turtle takes his shell off and.... I won't spoil it for anyone but for some reason it absolutely got me and I was crying with laughter!!

TiredEyes25 · 07/03/2025 21:29

With a friend I see weekly. There's always something that makes us proper laugh. Whether that be something we've remembered from the past. Something recent or something random.
We've had a few things happen to us Over the years which genuinely were so funny that each time it's remembered we proper belly laugh. And it's been about 15 years now since the events.
However our sense of humor is very warped.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 07/03/2025 21:34

I properly laugh nearly every day.

Today with my work colleague.

Ted27 · 07/03/2025 21:39

This afternoon. I was on a day out with my adult son and 11 year old foster child.
We had fish and chips and fizzy drinks by the river.
I very rarely have fizzy drinks because I get dreadful trapped wind.
The inevitable happened, it was actually quite painful.
But my son burped first, then my foster child, nothing from me. So they were having a burping competition. Then my FC let out the most dreadful burp, people actually looked round.
This child has lived with me for 6 months, I don't think I have ever seen them laugh properly. So I don't care if it was a bit uncouth.
They laughed, my son laughed, I laughed so hard my wind popped like a balloon. What a relief.

SingleHouseholder · 07/03/2025 21:40

I watch The Chase every day and without fail there is at least one answer that has me cracked up laughing.

Today a woman was asked what a "cavoodle" was and she said it's "a cross between a cat and a poodle". I just laughed out loud again whilst typing that!

OllyBJolly · 07/03/2025 21:41

About 10 minutes ago. My DH makes me laugh constantly , that's why I love him.

Ihopeithinkiknow · 07/03/2025 21:41

Was watching that itv drama about Ruth Ellis (the last woman to be hanged in this country) with my 15 year old daughter and on the last episode when it was time for her to be put to death my daughter said "there is no way I would get out of bed and willingly walk so they could hang me if they wanna kill me then they are gonna have to carry me there" I couldn't stop laughing because I can imagine how awkward she would make the whole process and she would lay there all floppy and make it as difficult as possible for anyone to pick her up.

Cattery · 07/03/2025 21:43

My adult son makes me cry laughing x

Squirrelsnut · 07/03/2025 21:43

30 minutes ago. DH kindly played me the recording of my snoring last night. I'm congested at the moment and it was truly spectacular.

StarDolphins · 07/03/2025 21:47

I laughed tonight on our last dog walk of the night, I’m trying to get my dog & my DD moving so I could get back to my prosecco because it’was late & they were both dawdling so I said hurry up & I heard my dd say to our dog “hurry up Bobby, it will be mummy’s funeral by the time you get home” 🤣 I am quite old though so she’s possibly right!

i try to laugh every day, I thrive on on fun& laughter & I need it in my life.
