We once had 3 customers with the exact same name - something like John Smith.

It was a nightmare because you would end up checking the email about 5 times before sending as the information was sensitive.

We never had a data breach but after 2 very near misses we moved them around so they are managed by different people and all files are labelled- johnsmith-manchester78, Johnsmith-london-55 etc

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 07/03/2025 04:26

I have a fairly uncommon name and when I was a ward sister I had two staff nurses with the same name.

DilemmaDelilah · 07/03/2025 10:19

Mine isn't that common, but there were 2 of us in an office of 9. I decided to use my full name instead of the shortened version - think Suzanne instead of Sue.

If it’s a large workplace, obviously there will be plenty.
What is your point/ question?

There isn't one like i said i was bored HTH

There's only 20 of us and at one point we had three sets of 2 people with the same name!

AmyFFismyhomegirl · 07/03/2025 19:32

In a team of 30 there are three Jennifers! At my last place on a committee of 20 there were 3 Pauls and 2 Emmas. I find it fascinating and I suppose it says a lot about lack of diversity ans demographics in certain teams.

EmpressaurusKitty · 06/03/2025 21:12

We had a team at one point that was almost entirely composed of men called David.

So did we! If they weren't called David they were called Matthew. It was a standing joke.

harrietm87 · 07/03/2025 19:36

I’m a lawyer and at one point there were more partners in our team called Tom than there were women.

btw @honeylulu its risk averse (not risk adverse) - one of my personal bugbears and such a common mistake.

NoOneKnowsWhoYouAre · 07/03/2025 19:38

I was once in a meeting with three people with almost identical names, e.g Claire Short, Claire Shorter and Claire Shorten. It was a nightmare for all involved especially the minute taker!!

I another organisation I worked in the CEO and an entry level person had the same name. Somehow the CEO's redundancy got paid to the wrong person and they buggered off to Thailand!!

ImthatBoleyngirl · 07/03/2025 19:38

Loads of Marks, Phils and Johns!

Newjobnewstartbooks · 07/03/2025 19:40

There was only one of me for ages, but now there are loads. Makes it confusing.

RuthW · 07/03/2025 19:41

2 Richards
2 Claires
2 Lauras

spilltheteapot · 07/03/2025 19:42

We have about a million Stuarts. And they are either scousers or Liverpool FC followers.

We are nowhere near Liverpool!

RuthW · 07/03/2025 19:43

When my now adult dd was at school, at one point she had 7 friends called Georgia

TheChosenTwo · 07/03/2025 19:45

We are a staff of around 50 and there are 4 Claire’s and 3 Steve’s.
Only one of me though!

SwanOfThoseThings · 07/03/2025 19:50

We have a very senior person with the same name (first name and surname) as a very junior person.

We have loads of Sarahs, Andrews, Beckys and Daves.

sunshineandshowers40 · 07/03/2025 19:51

We have a lot of Jo's (Joanne or Joanna).

Bakingdiva · 07/03/2025 19:57

Sorry baby, genuine typo! I gave a presentation to clients covering risk aversion last week and I promise I got it right then. How embarrassing.

I nearly corrected someone on mumsnet earlier for saying "sister in laws". I'm glad I didn't now.

Nobody's perfect, hey?

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 07/03/2025 20:02

A man's cousin, with the exact same name, applied for the same job in our small office a few years back. In fact he applied for it twice in two years without changing his CV.

KezzaMucklowe · 07/03/2025 20:03

There are 2 of me at work. We go by our last names, it would feel strange if I heard my colleagues called me by my first name now.
We've got quite a small staff team around 45 and me and the other me are the only 2 who share names.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 07/03/2025 20:07

I learned there was a mystery woman in my city with the same first name, last name and almost identical middle name (eg Marie v Maria) and the same DOB. We almost got mixed up so many times at various bookings and I learned she lived about a mile away at one point. My DH went to a work conference abroad in a European city and in the pub afterwards he was introduced to a woman with my name tag. By coincidence it was my birthday so he said, chancing his arm 'are you enjoying your birthday?' to her and she replied 'yes thanks. Sorry how did you know.. '. She was gobsmacked but turns out she knew of me too.

Not a workplace story I know... funny though.

WhatWouldHopperDo · 07/03/2025 20:11

2 out of 5 in our senior team are both called Helen and their last names begin with the same letter.

We have
2 Amy
3 Andy
2 Fiona
2 Bev
I think 4 Steve but may be 5.

Borris · 07/03/2025 20:15

Lots of alison's and jenny's. 2 Ruth's, 2 Di's. There were a few Jane's and Gemma's for a while
