Does anyone absolutely love their job?

I see a lot of posts about people hating their jobs . I was always one of them . I was a teacher , I always hated it. Sundays were the day before work so I couldn’t enjoy them. Half terms were countdowns to work.

I left with nothing to go to . I came across a job and applied , wondering if I was jumping out of the fire pan into the fire . But I didn’t! It’s still teaching , but a different type. No ofsted, no micromanaging , full autonomy. I absolutely bloody love it. Every day , I enjoy every second , I close my laptop at the end of the day and it is never opened at home. I have plenty of time for planning , I never feel overwhelmed, I get recognised for everything I do , I get told what I’ve done well not what I’ve done wrong.

If you love your job , what do you do ?

I was a teacher and hated it because of the same reasons as you. So I gained an M.A. in translation and interpeting and set up freelance. It was very hard at times because of the complexity of the texts that I translated, (medicine/law) but I was my own boss and that made it possible for me. Would love to know what kind of other teaching you found?

Unfortunately not. I work in mortgages and it's unbelievably boring and sometimes stressful. But I'm employed (which is unusual in the industry) and I can WFH so I just stay.

If I could afford retrain to be a midwife , I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Toddlerteaplease · 06/03/2025 22:27

Paediatric nurse. 21 years on and I still love it!

Ladamesansmerci · 06/03/2025 22:35

Mental Health Nurse. I'm not sure I love it, but it's one of my biggest passions in life and I care about the people I meet deeply. The admin drives me up the wall though!

piscofrisco · 06/03/2025 22:38

I've given up managing complex mental hearth services and gone to work on a farm where adults with LD come for day services. We care for the animals and garden all day long. It's amazing and how social care should be done. If only it paid more than £12 an hour I'd be laughing. I'm doing it alongside doing a masters mind and at some point I'll have to go back to managing things due to finances. But I will be very sad when that day comes.

Sheepareawesome · 06/03/2025 22:45

Occupational therapist. I love the work (apart from all the meetings!). Love the team, love the fact that I get to drive around to see people at home and meet loads of lovely families and their pets! Summer is best, window down music on and singing my way back to the office for a cuppa whilst I write the notes or order equipment.

It can be hugely frustrating at times too, admittedly, what with waiting lists etc and delays with orders. I didn't enjoy it so much when I worked in a large hospital but love community work. Found my niche! Tried acting up for management and lasted 6 weeks so back to clinical and will be staying here.

So er... What job is this?!

ScarfAndGlassesgirl · 06/03/2025 22:51

Well I love my job...I'm a head of department on a corporate role. I rock up at 9.30 after school drop off, focus on hitting our targets ensuing our pricing is correct and everyone is happy it's not hard. I'm paid really well, I love it!

mambojambodothetango · 06/03/2025 23:04

Freelance working mainly at home for small organisations specialising in a quite specific/niche form of entertainment (won't say what as possibly outing alongside other posts). I get to go to performances regularly and have the instant satisfaction of seeing whether my efforts have paid off (or not) when the audience arrives. Nice people who I've known and worked with on and off for over 20 years. But mainly on my own in my slippers with the cat for company. Bliss. Mind you, it's not well paid!

Toadstool101 · 06/03/2025 23:12

Midwife and love it. No longer work long shifts, didn’t love it then.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 06/03/2025 23:15

I work in publishing. The money is terrible (there's a bit of a theme developing with this thread!) and I have some days that are frustrating or stressful but most days I'm absorbed in the work, enjoy it, find it interesting and varied, and my days go quickly. I'm also lucky to have had genuinely lovely colleagues in every job I've had in this industry, some of whom are now good friends.

OverhwelmedMum · 06/03/2025 23:18

Teaching Assistant in a secondary school working in the inclusion department. I genuinely love my job. I left because I wanted to try something new, hated it and reapplied to go back as soon as a position became available again. Best decision ever! It's not easy, I come home shattered but I love the students I work with and my colleagues are fantastic too!

latetothefisting · 06/03/2025 23:23

I loved my previous job (archivist) but had to leave because of the salary - considering you need a specific masters qualification at least, the money is shocking (same as most heritage jobs), tbh. Current job is fine but I don't love it.

Moonlightstars · 06/03/2025 23:23

Work supporting small charities set up in deprived areas. Love it. Inspiring people wanting to improve where they live. Half freelance (bliss), half for an organisation (security). All WFH. Varied, positive work that makes the world a better place. OK paid (very average). Couldn't work in the corporate world. Live is too short!

YesItsMeYesItsMe · 06/03/2025 23:30

Me me me! So far! I’m a new singing teacher. Singing releases endorphins so everyone is generally in a good mood. The days fly by. I still dread it and feel guilt leaving my kids/them having to do after school club and nursery, and I’m out 4 evenings a week so miss bedtime a lot. But when I’m there a frickin love it!

LovingHare · 06/03/2025 23:31

i loved it and even put extra hours in when needed, unitl the new ceo made our dept redundant

Wishitwasstraightforward · 06/03/2025 23:36

Self employed dog walker (also do cat visits). I love love love my job. It is hard work especially over winter and will never make me rich which I am ok with, but I appreciate that approach wouldn't suit some people.

I've previously held corporate roles where the pay was pretty generous but I didn't enjoy any of them.

I love being my own boss, I adore working with dogs and cats, feel very very lucky to be out in the wild every day, enjoy being physically active, appreciate having autonomy. Luckily, most of my customers are absolutely lovely and appreciate the service that I provide which is a great boost.

stayathomer · 06/03/2025 23:38

Yes, working on checkout and love that every day I get to chat to people. I hopefully brighten up their day and the day flies in then I get paid for the chat!!!!

I'm very jealous!

FlatWhite78 · 07/03/2025 00:12

I’m a physio, primarily based in ICU nowadays - have always loved my job! I’ve been qualified for 35 years now and still live + breathe my profession. Hospitals are such interesting places to work, you meet so many wonderful characters (both patients & staff!) and no two days are ever the same. Retired for a few years when DD was small and missed it so much, it felt like part of my identity was gone.

MrsWaltonGoggins · 07/03/2025 00:14

I work in a children’s home. It can be stressful and sad, but I love it.

PancakePatty · 07/03/2025 01:04

Farmer. Love it the work but I will never be rich. In fact this financial year we just scraped by. We had a crop failure at harvest so this impacted us financially massively.
We have sheep & cows also. Just started lambing which means spring is on its way. I enjoy the different seasons. I enjoy bringing new life in to the world and take great pride in our animals. We really do put our heart & soul in to them. We never take a holiday, haven’t stayed off the farm anywhere, not even 1 night in 5 years.

Maxorias · 07/03/2025 01:33

I'm a civil servant. I receive paperwork from people applying for things. I love it. It's a bit technical (lots of very specific rules) and having been at it for over a decade I'm pretty good at it. I especially like the investigative part of it where we have to be wary of people presenting fraudulent applications. It's almost like a police investigation. I also love the part where we see so many different situations where we have to work out what the best process is for them. I love going to work. The best part is that we're moved to different places every few years so never get bored.

I teach young adults who are continuing their education with support - high level needs / autism. I absolutely love it!
