Does anyone absolutely love their job?

I see a lot of posts about people hating their jobs . I was always one of them . I was a teacher , I always hated it. Sundays were the day before work so I couldn’t enjoy them. Half terms were countdowns to work.

I left with nothing to go to . I came across a job and applied , wondering if I was jumping out of the fire pan into the fire . But I didn’t! It’s still teaching , but a different type. No ofsted, no micromanaging , full autonomy. I absolutely bloody love it. Every day , I enjoy every second , I close my laptop at the end of the day and it is never opened at home. I have plenty of time for planning , I never feel overwhelmed, I get recognised for everything I do , I get told what I’ve done well not what I’ve done wrong.

If you love your job , what do you do ?

Preschool teacher. I have funny and joyful experiences every day, I can't think of any other job that could do this. I work under 20 hours per week school term only. I am on low pay but DH earns a lot so I can afford to do this. If I was full time I would lose my enthusiasm. I also live literally around the corner so no commute. Unlike most of my colleagues I love the admin side of it and enjoy report writing, planning and training. I've worked in other industries and didn't know I had a creative or caring side that was unfulfilled until I started this in my 40s

Well paid outside of the UK!! DH was a pilot and like most ended up working in the Middle East for quite a long time as it doubled his salary. Back home in the UK he earned similar to me as an AHP which I always found shocking

It depends on the airline! I was with one of the older, UK legacy airlines for a long time, and ended up as a senior long-haul Captain.
The salary was way above UK average, and then of course there’s the flight pay and benefits on top. Good final salary pension too…
(Admittedly, some of the low-cost carriers don’t pay as well!)

Nurse, just a common or garden band 5 , but I love it , it can be very hard physically and emotionally, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else because the pay is appalling given the huge level of responsibility and the pension is rubbish now , but I can't imagine doing anything else and love making a positive difference to so many peoples lives.

Yes i love my job has a support worker in thailand for young mums.

Oooh OP can you tell me more about this job? I've been working in adult Ed locally with adults with disabilities but it's zero hours and no planning time. I'd love for a stable job with planning time!

I think I really just dropped lucky in all honesty. I almost didn’t go to the interview as it was advertised as a tutor role and the job description was really detailed , with mention of SLT etc and I wondered if it would be worse . I imagined it as a college . But it was actually a brand new role , so they named the role as tutor but it’s a small setting that is one of a lot in a company that has just been taken over by a nationwide company that has lots of Sen schools , residential homes, supported living etc. When I went for the interview and found out more it’s basically running the education side of the setting … we have an accredited course that we run , alongside meeting EHCP outcomes . All learners have a 1:1, 2:1 etc and they provide all care as well as being a TA so I plan the work , deliver it to the TAs , they work with the learners and I’m free to kind of oversee and responsible for all assessments etc .

Imagine being a teacher but there is no ofsted , you have full autonomy on how things are taught , you have a TA for every student , you can leave the room whenever you want , you can do your admin / planning during the week or on your PPA day, you have flexible start and finish times , you do whatever you want to do when you have gaps - with the only requirement being that it’s beneficial for the students , you go out with them whenever you want and plan trips etc whenever you want and you are the one in charge of your class and your classroom and people respect that and actiallly give you credit as a professional. That’s pretty much the role. It’s like the dream of a teacher !

Quantity Surveyor, loved maths at school, love being able to tell folk that actually yes I do use Pythagoras and it wasn't a waste of time (unlike French!).

Great pay and huge opportunities. I'm currently working on energy security and data centre projects. Absolutely fascinating stuff and some really cutting edge technology.

I absolutely adore my job! I am a senior executive officer for an ambulance service. But I have worked in the NHS for almost 30 years and generally in fact always I've loved every role I've had.

Domestic house cleaner, my all time favourite job after years of clerical work. Clients were all brilliant, retired now .

Anxietysux · 08/03/2025 02:04

I'm a midwife and I love love love my job ❤️

WeAreNumpties · 08/03/2025 02:58

Accountant. I love it, meet lots of interesting clients - some famous - and help them to build their businesses. Work completely flexibly and pick and choose my hours. I get totally absorbed in what I'm doing and often I look up and five hours have passed without me realising.

Another ex teacher here but ex - HT. The greatest trick the govt and unions have pulled off is to manage to turn the blame of the unbelievable pressure and workload that is working in schools and blame it on ‘toxic SLT’ rather than admit it’s caused by the disastrous education and health system they’ve created, Ofsted and no funding.
Anyway, left after 20 years. Now work as COO for a medium sized charity. Love it. No stress, work my hours and then close the laptop,
