Deep Clean Expectations?

Obviously this varies quite a bit depending on the size of your house & how dirty it is. I have a smallish 3 bedroom property but no bedrooms are included in the clean. So it’s hall, stairs & landing plus lounge, kitchen/diner & bathroom which has a large shower but no bath. The clean will include sorting/cleaning kitchen cupboards, fridge, pulling out furniture, some washing of paintwork. There is laminate flooring in the lounge/hall & flagstone effect tiles in the kitchen. Carpet on stairs & landing. The cleaners will also be doing inside windows. I was surprised to be told that they will be here for 2 & a half hours. There’s 2 of them. I thought it would take maybe 4 hours. My kitchen cupboards are very full for starters! Does this seem about right? It’s a half price offer & I’m paying £60

So £60 for a total of 5 hours work that is an absolute bargain. I never understand how someone else can clean your cupboards as only by doing it yourself can you decide what to keep and throw away.

Luddite26 · 05/03/2025 23:16

Well that seems pretty cheap to me at half price.
I have worked as a self employed cleaner for a lot of years. What you have described on my own would take me about 6 hours to do to my standard. But I would bring cloths and cleaning products which I know work.

My current boss paid a cleaning company £120 for 4 hours work and they were pretty dire in my assessment.

£60 for 5 hrs?. That's crazy. I run a cleaning company, and I'd be charging in the region of £50 an hr for 2 cleaners (£25 each per hr) for a deep clean. If you wanted cupboards cleaned out, I'd ask for them to be cleared out 1st. It's not so much the cleaning that takes up time it's the moving 'stuff' out then way to do it. Didn't they come & look around before giving a quote?

Absolutely bargain!
Time sounds spot on (I am a self employed cleaner).

RabbitsRock · 05/03/2025 23:38

It’s 2 & a half hours, not 5. I was wondering how much they could get done in that time. One of them came round to look but didn’t see the inside of the cupboards. We do have a fair bit of clutter but I have seen way worse!

2 cleaners each working 2.5 hours is a 5 hour clean

RabbitsRock · 05/03/2025 23:42

notgettinganyyounger ah hadn’t thought of it like that!

I would say 5 hours work @ £15 per hour. A deep cleN generally takes most of the day. If they are young they may be quick but not thorough. They should put out of date stuff to one side for you to decide what to do with it. Sounds like a nice satisfying job. At that rate give them a tip and promote them on Google etc.

Diningtableornot · 05/03/2025 23:46

The cheapness is worrying especially if this is an agency . £12 an hour is barely minimum wage and cleaners charge more nowadays, annd the agency needs a cut. Are you sure they aren’t using dodgy practices?

RabbitsRock · 06/03/2025 09:57

Diningtableornot it’s a half price offer. I also get a “ top up” clean at a later date for £20

Checked their references & they are genuine people on Facebook

I don't think OP is questioning the price, I think she's concerned that this isn't going to be a deep clean. I agree, OP. I had 3 hours of cleaning time (2 cleaners for 1.5 hours each) just for bathrooms and kitchen in my house. I don't see a 3 bed getting what I would call a deep clean in that time.

Oh, OK, well, that's a bit different but I still don't see how they will get a whole house deep clean done in that time

RabbitsRock · 06/03/2025 10:04

CarterBeatsTheDevil I have asked them to leave the 3 bedrooms plus our rooms aren’t big. I do wonder how they’re going to get the kitchen cupboards done though - they didn’t ask if I could empty them first & they are very full!

I think they’re going to need more time!
