Struggling with my child’s behaviour

He’s 3 and has always had lots of tantrums/ meltdowns. Had a speech delay but it’s better now he can speak.

but lately it’s like Anytime I say no - full kicking crying melt down

And I have to say no. He asks for fruit shoots when he’s had one, we limit. He asks for more snacks after he’s ate (just to take a bite of and throw away) I say no. He asked earlier for a porcelain mug out the top cupboard for his mud kitchen, I explained it’s an indoor cup and offered a plastic one and he flipped out.

the other day he flipped and bit me so hard it cut and is bruised and still sore. I’m really struggling

I offer choices, alternatives, I’m there for him during the meltdowns but don’t give them too much attention, I remind him I love him no matter what he’s feeling (I say I love you all the time to him as well so he knows

what can I do? I feel like such a failure and so worn down

Maybe too much choice isn't helpful.

Maybe too much choice isn't helpful.

I do try to limit choices so if he asks for chocolate , we have bananas and raisins which would you like etc

only keeping it as a one or the other type of choice

Having tantrums is normal at this age, especially if he has speach delay so isn’t able to tell you he is frustrated.

Try as much as possible to set expectation. To his mind he is allowed fruit shoots somw times but not others and he doesn’t know when this is. If you say you’re allowed one fruot shoot a day he knows where he stands. Then when he asks for one you can say you’re only allowed one a day, do you wamt one now or later. Or just dob’t have them in the house at all. The same with chocolate, if he is some times allowed it as a snack he won’t bundersrand why hebisn’t allowed it this time.

Yes definitely I don’t expect none just at the minute it’s like walking on egg shells :( think the treats may have to be eliminated while we’re in this tough stage

I always lived by the mantra no audience no show. Remove yourself from the meltdown. He will stop if not getting any attention for it.
