Have you ever started a Troll post? And what did you get out of it?

I am not asking to judge - I really want to understand.

I am rubbish at spotting them and over the years have given advice and thoughts on numerous threads that turned out to be less than genuine. I did it again yesterday on 4 threads that have now been deleted.

And although I am always initially a bit pissed off, I am more curious and a. bit... sad for the poster? I wonder if it's loneliness rather than spite.

If you are prepared to do a name-change and admit to making stuff up - not necessarily on MN, I'd love to understand why and what you get out it. Do you have to make notes so you don't trip yourself up?

No-one is going to admit that!

I dunno. I am not holding out too much hope, but someone might name-change and talk about it.

I mean Troll posters clearly want to TALK and POST.... and I honestly don't believe it usually comes from a place of spite or destructive behaviour - I mean, how would they get that from posting? I think it's far more to do with wanting to be seen and feel cared for. But like I said in my OP - I don't know, so that is why I am asking.

I think even if you name change, the mods will know all the details. I'm assuming anyway 🤷‍♂️
