Homeopathy for threadworms

Has anyone used a homeopath for treatment of threadworms when mebendazole has not worked?

For info: we have taken it multiple times and we are doing everything in our power to get rid of them. Keeping on top of all the cleaning, showering etc etc

Seen them in my own stool a few weeks ago

Once you have treated, you will still be passing dead worms up to a week later. It takes a couple of rounds of treatment sometimes. Don’t panic if you take the drugs and then still see worms a few days later. We once had to do four cycles (housemate was lax with personal hygiene).

Move your toothbrushes out of the bathroom.

Do you suffer with health anxiety at all OP? If you do, even once the worms are gone you might still convince yourself that skin flakes or itching is worms, when it’s not.

There's always an alternative. albendazole or pyrantel pamoate

they won’t prescribe anything else I’ve already asked them and they said all they will use is mebendazole

Take the ovex twice a day for 3 days. The only thing that worked for us. (That dosage is prescribed for a different type of worm actually).

I realised what nonsense homeopathy was when we consulted a homeopath in desperation over DDs eczma and asthma when she was around 4.
Somehow DD got hold of the tablets and ate them all, we rushed to A&E (PFB) with the empty tube and they (very nicely) laughed at us. I also phoned the homeopath for advice and she said that DD would be fine as you couldn't OD on the tablets. Expensive mistake

A homeopathic treatment will do exact the same to the person who is taking it as it does to the worms.

Can you see a private GP for a prescription of albendazole?
A large tube of cina homeopathy will set you back around £8. Worth a go? There are different doses. As far as I know the 3, 6, 30 are for multiple uses daily and the 200c is for more urgent one or two use. You’ll have to check on that.
There are also homeopathic tissue salts for general rebalancing.

Good advice from others about pumpkin seeds, raw carrot etc

Of course it's not worth a go. It's literally nothing. The 200c dose is no different to the 3 dose, since both contain NOTHING.

horrible things bugger to get rid of. as everyone says keep linen to yourself scrupulous hygiene short nails hot wash sheets and towels etc
if you have tried over the counter meds and it has not worked then maybe ask GP
otherwise try the homeopathic if you wish and the food things suggested
I have heard colonic irrigation works as it washes it all away seen on You Tube people having it done and big clumps of worms and eggs floating away 😳not practical with kids tho

rubberduck68 · 05/03/2025 10:02

Out the other side now as kids adults, not oppose to holistic approaches, but trust me on this, get the chemicals unless you want to be scratching your bum for all eternity. Pharmacists are better than GPS at this stuff; find a good one and ask them for alternatives, keep going until one works.

Bunnycat101 · 05/03/2025 10:14

Like a few others I wonder if some of this is now psychological now. It’s always been quite easy to get rid of them in our house with ovex.

mindutopia · 05/03/2025 10:24

I would stop all the checking for them, scrubbing, Vaseline, etc. Take the Ovex and take it again after 2 weeks and take it again 2 weeks later. My guess is you are anxious, checking bums, cleaning, washing bedding, applying Vaseline and you are re-infecting yourselves. I honestly have never even washed bedding and Dh and I don’t treat ourselves when dc get them. We don’t mess around looking for them.

Keep hands well washed but do not touch. I’ve never even had them come back after 2 weeks, though we do give dc the 2nd dose. You don’t have some super worm strain. They will be susceptible to Ovex. But the life cycle means you have to avoid re-infection, or else you just treat it again 2 weeks later.

AtticusCatticus · 05/03/2025 23:15

The only way homeopathy will kill worms is if you drown them. Good luck, though, they can be a bugger to get rid of.

Basketville · 05/03/2025 23:50

I remember being told that the medication will only kill / paralyse worms in the gut. The only way to get rid of them for sure is to break the cycle so even one scratch overnight means worms or eggs can get under the nails and then, well …

Not personally recommending this, or confirming whether I tried this when I caught them from my DD back in the day, but someone suggested a bit of toilet paper up the bum to stop the worms coming out overnight … <shudder at the memories>

I do feel for you OP. Give me nits over worms any day of the week 🤮
