Homeopathy for threadworms

Rainbow24x · 04/03/2025 21:57

Has anyone used a homeopath for treatment of threadworms when mebendazole has not worked?

For info: we have taken it multiple times and we are doing everything in our power to get rid of them. Keeping on top of all the cleaning, showering etc etc

I'm a big fan of natural remedies, will obviously take medicine when needed but I often think what's the harm of just making dietary changes etc
I've heard of papaya seeds (you'll have to look up the instructions but I'm sure it's swallowing unripe papaya seeds) as a cleanse - there was a study done on sone children and it cleared 70% of their worm cases.
Not necessarily homeopathy in that it's just fruit, but worth a go!

They can be such a bugger to get rid of.

SCRUPULOUS hygiene - wear a fresh pair of latex gloves when wiping yourself / washing and cleaning loo every time it’s been used

everyone has their own towels

kids in PJs every night to stop them itching the skin round their bum and the sucking theirs fingers 😫

improve your gut health - poor stomach acid can be an issue

lots of raw veg - a few days of v low calorie diet

and yep, repeat doses of mebendazole

reinforcing good hygiene for all members of the family

good luck!

Thank you.

We are so meticulous with all of that. I just can’t understand it! We are due to go on holiday for 2 weeks in summer and I am hoping this helps with breaking the cycle

Does homeopathy work?
There's been extensive investigation of the effectiveness of homeopathy. There's no good-quality evidence that homeopathy is effective as a treatment for any health condition.

Okay I guess the dury is out on that one! Does anyone have any helpful advice?

The jury is in agreement, not out!

‘Jury’
Helpful advice: homeopathy will not purge you of parasitic threadworms. Go and see your GP.

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 04/03/2025 22:56

I can sell you some magic water for £50
Cure everything and I will hit it with a willow stick then jump up and down 3x to trigger the magic

Teaandchocolate2222 · 04/03/2025 22:58

Make sure everyone washes hands as soon as they wake up in the morning. If they've scratched in their sleep the eggs will be under their nails and putting hands near mouth can repeat the cycle. It sounds like you're doing it all though otherwise

I really hope you find a solution, it sounds awful for all of you. There seems to be some sensible advice on this thread. But when it comes to expensive sugar water, keep your money in your wallet.

The jury is not out. The jury has agreed wholeheartedly that homeopathy is a load of rubbish and will not work!

Bathing / showering before bed and using sudocream or similar around bottom. Purely anecdotal with no evidence as far as I’m aware but this helped with the itching.
Tight underwear to sleep in and then a shower after waking.
Clean towels and bedding daily along with vacuuming and wet dusting.
An absolute ball ache but it worked.
We also used medication but agree with PP that breaking the cycle is what is needed.

Winterjoy · 04/03/2025 23:14

Not sure about children but for adults definitely eat pumpkin seeds (as per pp), lots of garlic and take clove supplements. All these foods are anti parasitic and the aim is to make your gut an uninhabitable environment should any eggs get swallowed. Combine with a NO (processed) sugar diet for at least a few weeks and probiotic foods like natural yoghurt and kimchi - helps to restore gut microbiome.

Also had recommended (but can't attest first hand) to put vasaline around anus in the evening/overnight as it restricts the adult's movement when they come out to lay eggs and also stops the eggs from sticking when they are layed meaning they never get to the point of hatching.

Also as per pp, if you've had them around for a while, take a step back for a sense check - are they definitely still there? It can become such a paranoia that they feel omnipresent in the end!

Thank you. I have read that taking Cina can help which was why I asked about homeopathy as I don’t personally know anyone who has taken it. Its all very frustrating

Thank you. We do all this at the moment. Going through Vaseline like never before lol

Thank you I will try that. I did wonder if it was paranoia and decided in my mind the itching and white flakes were due to extensive washing but then the next day I seen them in the toilet

have you changed all the toothbrushes? kept the tooth brushed out of the bathroom?

mathanxiety · 05/03/2025 05:10

Do you have carpets?
Getting them professionally steamed is a good idea. Get your upholstery done too, and the mattresses.

Clean all dining room chairs and kitchen stools, also tables, counters, breakfast bars.

Clean all bathroom surfaces daily - taps, flush handles, loo lid and seat and bowl, doorknobs, cupboard doors, mop floors, clean sink. Scrub the bath or shower after each use and rinse. Steam cleaning is best.

Stuffed animals in beds? Put them all in the washer and dryer, or freezer for a few weeks if you don't have a dryer.

Clean the beds (headboards, wooden parts)
themselves with a damp cloth and dish detergent. Or a steam cleaner.

If you are drying bedding, underwear, towels, kitchen towels, and night clothes on a clothes line or over radiators, do them in a dryer instead. If you don't have a dryer, take the laundry to a launderette. Ironing with a hot iron can be useful too.

Hose down any plastic / washable laundry baskets you're using after each load goes into the washing machine.
Throw out any fancy wicker/ cloth laundry baskets. The eggs are too hard to dislodge from cloth and wicker.

Everyone should undress only in the bathroom, never in a carpeted area. Take clothes off slowly and carefully and place in a plastic laundry basket. No ripping clothes off or flinging them.

Clean the laundry area with a wet mop/ cloth and hot water and vinegar after every use.

If your washing machine is in your kitchen, mop the floor every time you use the machine.

Clean all car seats and car surfaces that are frequently touched in the car (door handles, levers, window and lock buttons, steering wheel).

Clean all lunch boxes very thoroughly, inside and out.
All water bottles need to be put through the dishwasher.

Clean bike handles and saddles.

Trim all fingernails. Use nail brushes.
Everyone needs to wash hands thoroughly as soon as they enter the house, after every trip to the loo, and always before eating. You should wash hands before preparing all food.

Wipe your phone daily.

Pumpkin seeds can be useful too.

Homeopathy is a waste of time. The only provable benefit is the one to one time spent with the practitioner, who listens and sympathises with the client.

Do you know the source of reinfection? Which child is getting reinfected? Is it from school?

I did have a friend years ago who was nearly driven mad by threadworms and was ranting at the nursery and school. Then it transpired it was a colleague in her office who was the source. That was an interesting conversation.

I don’t think it’s reinfection I think they aren’t going away in the first place with the medication as the signs/symptoms don’t go away. I feel I am almost going mad too. It’s consuming my life!

I change the toothbrushes regularly and keep them on a shelf up high in the bathroom

How certain are you that it's definitely threadworms? Have you seen actual worms in everyone's poo?

CerealPosterHere · 05/03/2025 06:25

I would also have everyone sleeping in underwear under their pjs to limit how much they can escape. And that would include dh wearing briefs not boxers. Vaseline dabbed round your bum hole at night will also stop them coming out.

i see someone has mentioned pumpkin seeds, afaik they have to be ground up. I give my dog a teaspoon of ground up pumpkin seeds every day, I do this rather than worming her. There s some evidence for it…..god knows how many tablespoons you’d need as an adult. Or if it works for people. I’d keep going with the proper medicine and everything else including nighttime knickers and Vaseline.

endofthelinefinally · 05/03/2025 06:31

Is there anywhere at all that one of you could be picking up eggs in between treatments?

endofthelinefinally · 05/03/2025 06:34

No shared cups or cutlery outside the home? It only takes one person with eggs on their hands...
