Vasectomy aftercare

DH had a vasectomy today.

They did the op in 15 mins and sent him on his merry way. He came home waddling slightly, but happy enough. Only very mild aching. Then said that he’d been told he had to spend 24 hours in bed.

Is this standard? Everyone I know who’s either had or DH had a vasectomy (and the NHS website) said that all they need to do is take it easy and no heavy lifting (which I wholeheartedly support.)

So…Is he having me on with 24 hours? I can’t question it without sounding like a bit of a dick, but I swear even with much more invasive procedures women aren’t told this (c-sections I’m looking at you).

Whata wrong with him being in bed? I encouraged with my DH, I didn't want him getting hurt in that first day. Though he's happy for me to stay in bed when I'm unwell or whatever too.

My dh wasn't told to take to his bed for 24 hours. Not sure it's necessary

Lol. Think he's trying it on! No strenuous exercise, heavy lifting etc but no instructions to stay in bed for 24 hours!

My dh was told to stay in bed for 48 hours. I was not impressed when I was expected to be up and sterilizing bottles etc less than 24 hours after my c-section.

Mine had his on a Friday, spent much of the weekend in bed (fine with me, he was sore and a bit miserable) and back to work on Monday. I've no idea if it's standard, but if he needs rest it's OK. DH didn't want our three boisterous very small children leaping all over him as usual so it made sense for him to retreat to bed. It was just for one weekend.

He's having you on.

No DH wasn't told to stay in bed, he took it easy which was thankfully easy for us both to do as my mum had the kids and it was a weekend. But he didn't go to bed, and he was back to work on the Monday (procedure was a Saturday). He didn't go to the gym for a couple of weeks, he was a bit nervous!

I’m fine with him resting. He’s usually at least 50/50 within the house so happy to take on the proverbial heavy lifting for a few days.

24 hours bed-bound just seems like a long time to be advised. I thought they like you up and about after minor procedures. 🤷‍♀️

No, my DH wasn’t told that but let him do what he likes.
