Hysteroscopy

I am about to have a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic, due to thickened lining and a fair few fibroids. Anyone who has had this done? I am wondering how long I might need off work. Obviously I will be off the day of the procedure. Will I be ok to go back in the next day? Or does it take a couple of days to get over. I can get a lift in so don’t need to work about driving after the anaesthetic.

Take the day off next day. You might be fine but you might have a lot of gas and bloat and it s better give yourself a day off

I had mine on a Wednesday afternoon. I would have been ok to go into work on Friday (desk job), but took it to have the run into the weekend.

I had this last year and was fine the next day - there wasn't any need to be off work for longer than a day.

I had mine on a Friday and didn't need to go back to work until the Monday but was fine the day after.

I felt physically ok after 24 hours but I was woozy/tired/wobbly from the GA for a couple more days. Just 'off' rather than in pain.

I had mine on a Wednesday and took Thursday and Friday off - I definitely felt 'off' the next day due to the GA. If you have fibroids removed (I did) the cramping can be worse and the blood loss a bit heavier. I would definitely take the next day off - maybe two.

I think it really depends on how the general anaesthetic affects you, I have had a couple of hysteroscopies and one I was fine to go back after a couple of days, the other I was wiped out for a week, see how you feel and hope it’s ok

I was fine the next day anaesthetic wise but had quite heavy bleeding and cramping as they’d removed polyps and put a Mirena in so took the following day off but was absolutely fine ; to wfh) the day after that.

i actually had deep sedation which I feel amazing coming around from with really helped. I get sick with GA so tend to have this whenever possible

It really depends on your job, how the GA affects you and what you end up having done, which can be different to what you anticipate, depending on what they find. I personally would take at least three days. My first I went back to work the next day and really for me that was a bit too soon - I was uncomfortable cramping at work for a few days and it wasn't like I could just pause and rest when I needed to. The second I was whacked out by the anaesthetic and ended up having a polyp removed in addition so I did need three days.

Ime employers tend to not ask too many intrusive questions if you state you're having a gynae procedure so you have a bit more leeway around how much time off is seen as acceptable. This is literally the only upside about needing gynae work so take it I reckon.

I had a hysteroscopy, polyp removal and a mirina coil fitted a few weeks ago. I had it on a Wednesday, I felt pretty tired all day Thursday and a bit better Friday. I would've been fine to work on Saturday. Hope all goes well for you Flowers

I’ve had 3 of these, and had GA for them all. Totally fine once the anaesthetic wore off. Felt a bit tired the next day but didn’t feel ill. If it had been a work day, I’d have gone in as normal.
Hope it goes well for you.

Procedure went ok. They took a biopsy and removed a few fibroids. It’s just a wait now to get the results although not sure how long they’ll take to come back.
