Hair Toner

I have been having my hair highlighted for years at various decent salons.

I recently went to a new salon as I was working away from home.

After highlighting my hair they treated it with a toner.

I've never had one before and don't even know what a toner is or what it's for. In hindsight I should have asked.

What's the point of one and l are they needed?

Thanks

It's to take the brassiness out of the blonde, it stops it from looking yellow.

I'm not sure why it's never been used previously but was this time.

Is it because my recent hairdresser got the colour wrong?

No, nothing to do with using the wrong colour. As pp said, it just takes the warmth out of the blonde. They're not permanent, your hair will warm up again over the next few weeks.

I suppose I just don't understand why I've never had one before despite many years of getting it coloured, but needed one this time.

What was different this time round?
