Islington parking help

Kneeslikethese · 03/03/2025 23:11

Later in the week I need to drive to Islington in a van I'm hiring the same day.
I'm struggling to get my head round the parking rules.
If I use a parking app to rent a space for the day do I also need to buy a parking permit?
The rules on the council website are very unclear. Visitors permits only seem to be obtainable by residents on behalf of their visitors. Also because I won't know the reg of the van before the day I can't get anything in advance.

Thanks in advance.

how long do you need to park for?

normal 1-2hrs - use a normal pay & display space and the Ringgo app. That’s Islington Councils own parking charges.

all day find a space on private site - JustPark. In that case you don’t pay on top. That will be either a drive way, private car park and you just pay the quoted price.

HTH

I understand it’s hard to book in advance on the JustPark app without the reg. you’ll need to find a couple of spaces that would work for you on private app and hope they are free once you pick up van. I’ve had this when hiring a car and wanting to book parking in advance.

You are right you can’t get an all day visitors permit from the Council unless you are visiting a resident who has these.

Whereabouts in Islington are you going? It's split up into different zones, with different times.

Barkcloth · 04/03/2025 08:03

I might be able to say how busy it is if I know the street.

And watch out for the LTNs!!!

Sorry took so long to reply, was at work. We're going tomorrow (Wednesday) and will need to park from around 4pm to 11pm. My sons band has a gig at The Grace. I think we can unload at the back but then have to move to park elsewhere. The area is near Highbury Crescent.

@Kneeslikethese I'm so sorry, I missed your reply. I live in that area. How did you get on? The LTN around Highbury Fields is very confusing, so I hope you managed to navigate it ok (my next door neighbour fell foul of it a few months ago).

Thanks Barkcloth. It wasn't too bad, we hired a parking space on someone's drive. They gave us a permit to put in the window. No ticket on the windscreen, fingers crossed nothing in the post yet.

Glad to hear it. Hope the gig went well!

I saw them unloading! They're very young I was impressed at them moving all their own speakers!

Kneeslikethese · 09/03/2025 21:42

It did thanks.

Redlamb they are very young, between 15-18 but they're very dedicated. We can't afford crew so it's all hands on deck moving the equipment. We've been on tour all week, I'm knackered 🤣
