6 yo tired/hungry behaviour

When my 6 yo is tired (really tired) or hungry, he loses it. He’s recently discovered he loves to read, and stayed up the other night until nearly 11 reading secretly. This lead to one of the most epic tantrums ever at bedtime, screaming, crying, footstamping, etc. Took forever (over 30 min) to calm him down, he’d relax for a minute but then back into it. Also had a big tantrum at dinner that night (hadn’t eaten much during the day).

is this normal? He usually sleeps well (asleep by 8, up at 7/7:30) and we don’t have this behaviour, but I do notice his mood is especially closely linked to sleep and food (hanger?) It’s just such a tremendous about of energy for everyone to be using.

Im asking because so many of my friends say their children are getting easier at 6 . Mine is too, in some ways, but also can still lose it like a preschooler when he’s exhausted or starving.

Yes, I'm totally with you on this. The only time our 6 now 7 year old would get out of control is when she was hangry. So we make sure to never ever let her go hungry now! The fallout isn't worth it! She's been like that since she's been little

Thank you, does yours completely lose her mind if she has hanger? It’s like an exorcism.
