Late to the party but I’m with those who don’t think Labour has leaked anything. I also don’t think they’ve said anything as this is how the current government runs.

all the speculation previously (we’ve been here before!) has never been explained or denied - not true-!!!!

🙄

Well that is a comprehensive reply!

Would anyone know if any comparisons have been made with any other countries that have reasonably comparable populations after covid an increase in people not working/claiming benefits & if not did having much better health service/resources/support/ accessing Gp’s easily enough played a part
apologies not expressing myself well just idly musing really.

The problem with putting in the effort to soure and prepare information for the level of debate in the UK (and US) is that it's a total waste of time. A better use of time might be filling milk bottles with petrol - would certainly have more of an effect.

BIossomtoes · 17/03/2025 15:42

I take it that’s a no then?

It’s a “no, I wasn’t in the room or listening in on the phone, but even the smallest mind can tell that the government has been briefing journalists; if they hadn’t done so they wouldn’t be re-briefing about ‘reflection’, they’d be denying they ever planned such things” - then.

I was asked this same question when I said that Sue Gray had been briefed against…

Edited as I shouldn't bloody rise to it.

That’s entirely illogical. Reflection appears to be in response to backbenchers’ reaction to any kind of benefit reform.

Jolly good. Not that there’s any sensible criticism of my post.

edit: missing ‘that’

Partly. But it’s also a reaction to people expressing their views to MPs, online and so on.

In any event, wherever the reactions have come from they’ve been caused by Labour’s briefing.

I don't actually give a flying fuck what you think of my post. I have far more important things to worry about.

PandoraSox · 17/03/2025 19:26

Iain Dale was just banging on about free cars. I am so angry at Labour for creating this atmosphere.

Big hugs to everyone on this thread who may be affected or whose loved ones may be affected by what is announced tomorrow. Big hugs also to all of you who are offering solidarity (which is most people on the thread).

Give it a rest Rummly, you can see that Pandora is upset

You cant authoritatively state who briefed what, all you can do is give an opinion which others are free to disregard.

BIossomtoes · 17/03/2025 20:23

There seem to be certain people who visit this thread simply to sneer and cause discord. It’s beyond me why. There’s a certain thread which is an enclave of posters who detest the government and everything it stands for. It would be beyond rude for me to post on that thread so I don’t. Maybe read the room @Rummly?

Saucery · 17/03/2025 20:24

We got a leaflet from our local Tory Councillor today. He is local born and bred, comes across as a decent sort on social media, lobbies for things that really matter to the area in a measured, mostly collaborative way. The leaflet is a load of partisan toss 🙄, like the worst of a FB comments section. Trying to see off the Reform voter stealing, obviously.

Saucery · 17/03/2025 20:26

I find that when posters latch on to an untruth designed purely to irritate and upset, it’s generally best not to give them the oxygen of attention. Just a general observation Smile

Piggywaspushed · 17/03/2025 21:05

Big hugs right back at ya pandora.

I hope that even the lurkers can see that you're only on these threads to push the right-wing line. I'm pretty sure that you don't even believe the bullshit that you write.

But, yeah, you've got to live with being yourself...

Badenoch has announced they are ditching their net zero target after taking donations from the funders of a Tufton Street climate denial group.

Further proof - if it were needed - that they aren't in the least bit interested in winning back seats from the L/Ds.

Notonthestairs · 18/03/2025 09:01

The Conservatives are set to announce they would ditch the net zero 2050 target. As a flagship policy to launch their policy review it isn’t without some risks. Not least as the policy splits their remaining 2024 vote, with Tory voters narrowly more likely to support it than not

Morning all.

LBC last night saying PIP will no be touched, Guardian saying that the proposed cuts will be pushed through including the PIP freeze. BBC saying PIP criteria will be tightened, but that the most disabled will not face reassessment.. .

I think that all pretty much blows the @rummly theory that the government is deliberately pushing lies about how drastic the cuts to PIP wil be to make the reality seem more palatable. Unless of course there is a separate set of fibs for each media outlet?. .

Whatever happens, Labour has probably lost my vote. The only way I will vote for them again is to keep Reform out. We might as well have a Tory Government. At least one knows what one is getting instead of being duped into thinking one is voting for a party that has some care for ordinary people.

TBF the Labour spin pre Election was always far away from traditional Labour "values" and much more towards the centre right, this centre ground has of course moved to the right in recent years.

Most of the Labour cabinet would sit comfortably in a Thatcherite Govt & most Tories would be comfortable in a Meloni or Le Pen party.

Fairly shocked the other day to hear Ian Duncan Smith supporting Labour policy.

But given all of that, i'd rather have Starmer et al than Badenoch or Jenrik.
