Someone i know was attacked last night and it got me thinking about safety and steps I take to protect my children, house and self.

Children - only a reputable nursery and my mum minds them.

House - i don't think i do enough!! Checking doors are locked before bed is the height of it.

Self - not going out walking alone late at night.

Do a house Fire Plan and run through it with your children
Smoke alarms
Carbon monoxide alarm
Ensure your children ALWAYS travel in appropriate car seats
Walk on the right hand side of the road (ie facing oncoming traffic), esp where there is no pavement
..and so on (sorry I got bored).

If I went through fire drills my children would just get anxious about a real fire. My eldest wouldn’t go outside yesterday on his own (in our garden) because he heard a fox once ate a baby. He’s 6!

I make sure we have fire and carbon monoxide alarms. Have a good idea of what we’d all do in a fire - depending on where it started obviously.

We have CCTV.

I’m careful who minds them.

The risk of CSA etc is higher than a random attack - we should be talking about that more than a random attack in the street or whatever it was.
