Help me solve this mystery please!

Sorry for graphic toilet details but this has really freaked me out and wonder if anyone has experienced similar or can offer any reasonable explanations…

Last night I went to the toilet in the middle of the night for a wee, this was one of multiple visits thanks to peri menopause
I obviously flushed the toilet, washed my hands and closed the bathroom door after me as the fan comes on with the light and is noisy.

It was 3am and DP was fast asleep in bed next to me and the cat was asleep in his basket in the hall, we were the only ones in the house with the door locked.

I couldn’t get back to sleep so read for about an hour whilst both the cat and DP snored lightly, about an hour later I needed another wee so got up again and noticed the bathroom door was ajar, this happens sometimes though if I don’t fully shut it so thought nothing of it.

I noticed before I used the toilet there was a huge poo in the toilet and I’ve no idea where it might have arrived from!

I asked DP where he thought it might have appeared from and he was as mystified as me. The cat is very clever and if he’s ever been shut in the house he gets into the bath and wees down the plug hole or does a poo in the bath. I’ve caught him a couple of times when I’ve slept in and not heard him miaowing to get out or come home when he was doing it. DP wondered if he’s decided to use the toilet instead but I think the poo was too big to come from the cat and I can’t see him able to use the toilet like a human.

I checked ring doorbell footage and no one came in the house, I really didn’t think that would be the case anyway.

I’m freaked out over this and wondered if anyone might be able to over an explanation because it’s really puzzling me and DP and I can’t think of where it came from. We did wonder if it was something to do with the sewage system but I didn’t produce that poo and DP staunchly denies it and has been badly constipated.

I was going to name change but didn’t in case I get accused of being a poo troll. I’m genuinely not and tried hard to word this in the least descriptive way possible but I had to include the details as to why it’s such a mystery.

Well as it wasn’t you it has to be DP. My guess is you fell asleep whilst reading for a little while and he did the deed then. Or maybe it was there when you first went to the loo but didn’t notice it? Maybe it was stuck there so didn’t flush away. Can’t believe I’m typing this 😆🤣😂

That was considered except he denies it.

I knew people would think that and that’s why I didn’t name change despite how embarrassing it is, I can’t believe I had to type it out myself.

It sounds either made up, ridiculous or funny but it’s actually a bit scary, I’m glad we have the ring doorbell or I’d really believe someone had been in the house.

I was going to post on AIBU but knew I’d just get troll accusations, I’m hoping someone can come up with a genuine suggestion of what might have happened.

Was there toilet paper on top? If not, it has to be the cat ... you/DH would know if you'd somehow "sleep pooed" and hadn't wiped!

Could it have moved back from the u bend into the bowl/ pan and been an earlier poo?

I was wondering about an earlier poo too. Must admit this thread has made me laugh this morning but I can also appreciate it’s a bit scary too!

I remember, not long ago, a thread from a poster about lights being switched on and bits (like splashes of blood) in her sink that she hadn’t left there. Loads of MNers saying it must be the cat etc but turned out to be a neighbour from down the road letting himself in. Weird and scary! Sorry, I know that won’t make you feel better - but he was caught on a camera if I remember well, and you haven’t seen anyone on yours.

Do you have other toilets in your house? My DB has two bathrooms next to each other and sometimes if you flush one loo the contents end up in the other loo 😵‍💫 ... only occasionally but it's very bizarre!

It was really odd! And scary! I was totally hooked on that thread 🤦‍♀️🫣 I’ve tried to find it again just now to see if anything happened beyond that, but I can’t find it anywhere.
